Update:

Life moves fast in elite sport, just ask Pete Carroll. It feels like yesterday when the Las Vegas Raiders bet on the then-retired 74-year-old to lead them out of the mire and onto success.

However, a year on, after just one full season which brought a disastrous 3-14 record, the oldest head coach in NFL history has left the franchise with immediate effect. John Spytek, the general manager hired around the same time as Carroll, will remain in his position.

A win in Week 1 against the Patriots had fans believing, but 14 losses from 15 games later and the side are back to square one.

Who will replace Pete Carroll at the Las Vegas Raiders?

As for who is next in the revolving door of the team - that is the multi-million dollar question. It was widely reported that the Raiders were looking heavily at bringing in 49ers DC Robert Saleh last offseason, and he may yet emerge as an option this time around.

An unnamed NFL GM is cited by Las Vegas Raiders On SI as saying the following about the current coaching situation: “What proven coach would go there? You aren’t in charge, your legacy will take a hit, and if you can’t get along with Pete, who can you? That job will come down to a young guy who jumps at the chance, or an experienced guy who sees it as his last hope for a do-over. You would have to way overpay to get an experienced proven guy in there, with massive promises in writing, and that isn’t the feeling I get about their mindset.”
