Rams coach Sean McVay gives Puka Nacua injury update
The Rams’ leading receiver went down in Baltimore, and McVay has revealed what fans can expect next ahead of a trip to London.
The Los Angeles Rams may not be at full strength when they head to London for the NFL’s fifth international game of the 2025 season. Star wide receiver Puka Nacua suffered an ankle sprain in Sunday’s matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, putting his status for the coming weeks in doubt.
Head coach Sean McVay told reporters that Nacua will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis. The 23-year-old’s availability for the Rams’ game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium on October 19 remains uncertain.
How Puka Nacua’s injury happened
The injury occurred with just over 10 minutes left in the second quarter at M&T Bank Stadium. Quarterback Matthew Stafford targeted Nacua on an 18-yard pass, but Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey broke up the play. Nacua landed awkwardly after leaping for the ball and immediately grabbed his ankle in pain.
Nacua, who leads the NFL in receptions with 54 through six games, has been one of the league’s most productive wideouts this season. He’s totaled 616 receiving yards, averaging 11.4 yards per catch, and scored two touchdowns.
When could Nacua return for the Rams?
There is one small silver lining for Los Angeles. Following the London game, the Rams will get a bye week, which could give Nacua nearly two full weeks to rest and recover. That schedule could allow him to return in time for the team’s Week 9 matchup against the New Orleans Saints.
If his recovery takes longer, the Rams may hold him out until Week 10, when they face the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium. McVay is expected to take a cautious approach to ensure Nacua is fully healthy before returning to action.
Next man up for the Rams
In Nacua’s possible absence, veteran wideout Davante Adams is expected to become Matthew Stafford’s primary target. Still, the Rams will need their supporting cast to step up. Jordan Whittington, Xavier Smith, Tutu Atwell, and rookie Konata Mumpfield will likely see expanded roles in the offense while Nacua recovers.
