Ravens 40 vs 41 Bills summary, stats, scores and highlights | NFL Week 1
The Buffalo Bills made a miraculous 4th quarter comeback and took down the Baltimore Ravens with a last second field goal from kicker Matt Prater.

Show key events only
Matt Prater, who took the red eye from Arizona to Baltimore on Thursday, said he is still learning the guys on the team's names. They are all going to know his name after tonight. He had to come on to the field with no timeouts, and drill this game winning FG to close out this classic Week 1 showdown between two teams who are very likely to see each other again before this season ends.
The defense held up it's end of the deal, so with under a minute to go it was time for the MVP to do MVP type things. His pass to Josh Palmer put the Bills in field goal range. Allen ended the night with 394 yards and 2 TDs on 33/46 passing.
Allen's second TD run of the game gave the Bills a chance to tie the game up again, but the Bills again failed the two point conversion with under 2:00 to go. They had their three timeouts and the defense was able to get a hold when it mattered most.
This was the play that turned the entire game around. All the Ravens needed to do was run the ball, keep the clock moving and take the Week 1 win back to Baltimore. Henry fumbled in the worst moment possible for Baltimore and Josh Allen was quick to punish The King.
Sometimes when you are trying to make a comeback you have to be lucky and this was certainly a lucky play for Allen and Coleman. Keon Coleman might have had a breakout performance on Sunday night catching 8 balls for 112 yards and this TD that went off the hands of a teammate floated down into his mitts.
Henry broke free again and took a second long run to the house and this seemed to deflate the Bills, but a missed PAT would give Buffalo a glimmer of hope. Henry ended the night with 169 yards on 18 carries, but his night would go down hill in a hurry late in the quarter.
Allen had his usual dose of magical plays that kept his team in the game, but when it was time to put his head down and get his jersey dirty, he had no problem. The Bills went for the two point conversion, but it failed and they were still down two scores with nearly the entire fourth quarter remaining.
Buffalo went into the final quarter knowing they were going to have to play perfectly just to get back into the game, and then hope for a mistake from the Ravens. They played perfect, and finally got a break later in the quarter.
In the game of the week, and maybe the game of the year, DeAndre Hopkins may have made the catch of the season. This one hander put the Ravens up by 15 and it seemed impossible that the Bills could ever catch up.
The Bills responded with a professional drive that they dinked and dunked their way down the field trying to take a little steam out of the sails of the Ravens. James Cook punched in the TD, but the run game was never really a factor on Sunday night. He had 44 yards while Allen had another 30.
The first half was great, but that was just an appetizer for what was to come in the second half. Jackson and the Ravens came right back out and put points on the board to stretch the lead back to two TDs with this TD pass to Flowers. He had a career high 143 yards and this TD on 7 catches. Most of those came in the third quarter.
Lamar Jackson took the stage and waltzed into the end zone untouched just a play after the Henry run. It looked like it was all Ravens a this point as the Bills offense came to a halt and Baltimore showed no signed of slowing down.
Henry broke a couple of big runs in the 2nd quarter and the Buffalo defense looked lost trying to keep tabs on Jackson and Henry.
The Ravens kicked a field goal on their first possession of the night, but once the 2nd quarter came around Derrick Henry and Baltimore kicked it into overdrive. He had a 199 yard game against Buffalo last year, and he was on pace for that through the first half.
The Buffalo Bills won a thriller in their final season opener from Highmark Stadium. Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson went toe to toe in a battle fit for a couple of MVP QBs. Allen had the last laugh in a game that he threw for nearly 400 yards and two TDs, while running for another two.
The Bills came out and scored on their opening possession thanks to the reigning MVP of the league. Allen drove his team right down the field and hit his TE Dalton Kincaid for the game's first score.
With the clock winding down, Matt Prater, who joined the team late Thursday morning came in and made the winning kick to seal what will surely be one of the best games of the year.
The Bills had a little over a minute with no timeouts, but that's all Josh Allen needed to get is team into position to win the game.

WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM BUFFALO!!! IT'S RAVENS VS. BILLS ON SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL!
The King is back
While all the focus is centered around the quarterbacks in this game the Bills know there is one person that they cannot overlook. Derrick Henry came to Baltimore last year and put up massive numbers in his first year as a Raven. One of his best games was his near 200 rushing yard game against the Bills that showed just how good this team could be. Tonight the King is back and looking to draw first blood in what is proving to be one of the best rivalries in the NFL lately. Lamar and Josh will have their say but it could be Derrick who makes the difference in this game tonight.
Last year’s match ups
The Ravens and Bills met twice last year. Once was in Baltimore in Week 4 and the Ravens crushed the Bills on a night that Derrick Henry went for 199 yards. They dominated the Bills 35-10 to take the head to head tie break should they need it at the end of the season. The Bills got their revenge when it mattered. Allen and his squad hosted the Ravens in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, and the Bills led for most of the game, but the Ravens kept chipping away at the lead and had a chance to tie the game up with a 2 point conversion late in the 4th quarter but Ravens legend Mark Andrews made a rare mistake that cost Baltimore their season, and that was it. The Bills went on to the AFC Championship and the Ravens went home and had to watch the rest of the playoffs from their sofas.
AFC Preview
If this weekend has taught us anything, it’s that the AFC is wide open. The Chiefs lost to the Chargers who look like thy are going to be a threat to KC’s throne in the AFC West. The Denver Broncos went to the playoffs last year with a rookie QB, and will be looking to improve upon that. The AFC East has been dominated by the Bills for the last few years, and that isn’t likely to change unless the Dolphins, Jets or Pats have an incredible season. The North is going to be tough, as always. The Bengals and the Steelers look to have gone all this offseason hoping to get back into the title picture with the Ravens. In the South, the Texans have been the team to beat and even though Indy and Tennessee have new QBs and Jacksonville are under a new regime, Houston is far and out the favorite in the AFC South.
Star watch: Baltimore
There is no secret about who the engine that drives this Ravens offense is. Lamar Jackson has established himself into one of the best quarterbacks in the league, and last year he was on the verge of making history. He came up just short of being the first QB to pass for 4,000 yards and run for 1,000 yards all while throwing 41 TDs and 4 INTs. It might have been the best season the two time NFL MVP has had in his career, but it wasn’t enough to win a third MVP or make a Super Bowl run. Jackson has won all of the individual accolades but this year he has just one target. One goal. That goal is to be the last man standing once Super Sunday comes around.
Last year: Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens started the season against the defending champion KC Chiefs and lost by an Isaiah Likely toe which stepped out of bounds on the final play of the game. They would go on to lose their first two games, to the Chiefs and then to the Raiders inexplicably. After that Baltimore caught their rhythm winning five in a row against really good teams before another inexplicable loss to the Browns. Wins in 7 of their final 9 games set them up with the AFC North title, and a game against Wild Card and division rival Pittsburgh. They dominated the game against the Steelers and met the Bills in the Divisional Round. That was the game that Mark Andrews dropped the two point conversion and the Ravens fell just short of tying the game late in the 4th.
Last year: Bills
A lot like this season, there was a lot of hype around Josh Allen and the Bills even though they let a lot of the franchise QB’s favorite weapons go in the offseason. How did Allen respond? He won the MVP and led the Bills to another sensational season with a bunch of little to unknown players. Buffalo won their first three games of the season before a two game skid to the Ravens and Texans. They would respond by winning their next 6 games including a fantastic finish agains the KC Chiefs that made you think this could be Allen and the Bills year. They finished the season 13-4, setting up match up with the Denver Broncos in the first round. They wiped out the Broncos, and met the Ravens in the Divisional Round. They squeezed by them and saw the Chiefs in the AFC title. game. A field goal separated the two teams and again, the Bills were left without a Super Sunday appearance.
We are live from Highmark Stadium
Hello everyone and welcome Buffalo where the Bills are embarking on a season that they are hoping will break their Super Bowl curse that has followed the franchise since the beginning. They were knocking on the door last year, but once again the Kansas City Chiefs cut their Super Bowl run short in the AFC Championship. Baltimore have been in that same bubble for the last decade. No one seems to be able to beat the Kings of the AFC, but the Ravens will be hoping that this is their year. It all starts here, tonight, with a game that might just determine who gets home field and the one seed come Week 18. It’s Allen vs. Jackson. Ravens vs. Bills to start the season with a bang.
