Update:

Quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver Rome Odunze were both drafted by the Chicago Bears last year - Williams, first overall and Odunze 9th overall. They’ve since become even closer as Bears teammates and there is hope that the connection they share will come through on the field as well this season.

Odunze on how he really feels about Williams

Obviously, Odunze is going to have nothing but good things to say about Williams, but it seems he truly believes the things he says and isn’t just keeping up appearances. In a recent interview with ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, he said he spoke highly of Williams’ potential.

“Rome Odunze told me Caleb Williams can literally be the best quarterback in the NFL,” Fowler said. “He’s far away from that right now...but as far as the ability, they see it. The players recognize it. They just gotta get it out of him.”

In his rookie season, Williams dealt with the typical learning curve. It didn’t help that he was dealing with a terrible offensive line. He finished the season with 3,541 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and six interceptions, adding 489 rushing yards and six touchdowns through 17 games. Odunze caught 54 of those passes for 734 yards and three touchdowns.

Now entering his second year under new head coach Ben Johnson, one of the NFL’s most respected offensive minds, Williams has an opportunity to improve significantly.

Chicago’s plan is to strip things back and rebuild Williams from the ground up, hoping the long-term payoff will be worth it. While Odunze’s bold statement might be part youthful optimism, it reflects confidence in Williams’ potential to join the league’s elite in the coming years.
