Saints 0 vs 34 Packers summary, stats, scores and highlights | NFL Week 16

GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN - DECEMBER 23: Zayne Anderson #39 of the Green Bay Packers celebrates after his interception against the New Orleans Saints with Keisean Nixon #25 during the third quarter at Lambeau Field on December 23, 2024 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. With the game well in hand, Malik Willis came on to the field to close the game and give Jordan Love some rest and the Packers capped off the game with a TD run and Lambeau Leap from Emmanuel Wison. The Packers clinched a playoff spot on a night that all three of their RBs got into the end zone and now they will turn their attention to their massive game against the Vikings next week.

as.com

It wasn't their toughest night of the season, but pitching a shutout is always admirable. The Packers defense came up with a fumble and picked off Spencer Rattler once on a night that the rookie QB won't want to remember. He went 15/30 for 153 yards, and INT and this strip sack.

as.com

Green Bay scored on their first three drives of the game taking advantage of the Saints inability to move the ball. Chris Brooks got into the action for his first NFL touchdown to stretch the lead to 21-0. We could have called game right there, but thee was still plenty of time left unfortunately for the Saints.

as.com

Josh Jacobs led a three man rushing attack with 69 yards on 13 carries and one TD that polished off a 17 play, 96 yard drive as the Packers took full command early in the second quarter.

as.com

The Green Bay Packers strolled to a blowout win over a banged up New Orleans Saints team on Monday Night in Lambeau. They dominated from start to finish and ended the night with the first shutout of this NFL season.

The Packers did what the Packers have been doing for the last month and a half. They started the game with the ball and looked to land a knockout blow early and that's what Jordan Love and Dontayvion Wicks did to cap a 10 play drive to start the night.

That was Love's only TD pass on a night that he would let his run game do the heavy lifting. He went 16/28 for 182 yards and 1 TD on a night that he sat most of the 4th quarter.

Prediction

This isn’t going to be close. I don’t care how much pride and how up for this game Darren Rizzi gets his guys. On the road, in the cold with nothing to play for. This might get ugly and it might get ugly quick. I love the Packers -3.5 in the first quarter. They have got used to coming out and looking for the knock out blow early in games lately and that’s what they will be trying to do knowing they have a huge game against the Vikings next week.

NFC Standings

Taking a look at the standings in the NFC, one thing is very clear. The Saints are out of the mix. Once you get that out of the way, we can look up to the top of the conference where the Packers division rivals Minnesota and Detroit are locked in a two way race for the one seed that might come down to the final week of the season. Who ever comes out on top wins the division and most likely the NFC. The Packers are in position to get one of the three Wild Card spots, with either the Lions or Vikings and the Commanders who got a big win yesterday over the Eagles. The Eagles have three losses and will most likely win the NFC East but settle for the two seed in the NFC, while the NFC West is controlled by the Rams who have a game lead. Finally the NFC South has a two team deadlock between the Falcons and the Bucs.

Star watch: Packers

Jordan Love has taken the baton from Aaron Rodgers and hasn’t looked back, but this team has another dynamic since the addition of Josh Jacobs. Jacobs was the league’s leading rusher a few years ago and he has transitioned to the Packers backfield flawlessly. He may be overshadowed by Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley who also found new homes this offseason but when you look at Jacobs’ stats, you have to tip your cap to the Green Bay ball carrier. He a 1,147 yards and 12 TDs rushing, another 302 yards receiving with another TD. He has been instrumental in the Packers success and in their quick starts to games over the last few weeks.

as.com

Star watch: Saints

It’s hard to highlight a star for the Saints when most of them are on the injury list, so let’s go through all of the players New Orleans will or could be without tonight in Green Bay. First, Derek Carr and Alvin Kamara have been ruled out with a fractured hand and a groin injury. Chris Olave hasn’t played since early November after suffering a concussion against the Panthers. Marquez Valdes-Scantling has a chest injury that has him questionable for tonight’s game. It’s more of the same for the Saints who have been in this boat for the entire season, but if we know Darren Rizzi, we know he will have his team ready for the challenge tonight

Season recap: Packers

The Packers were expected to be good this season and they have delivered. After a run to the playoffs in Jordan Love’s first season as the starter in Lambeau there were sky high standards in the Tundra. They started the season with a tough game against the Eagles in Brazil, and would end up losing by five. Love would get injured in that game but Malik Willis carried the Packers to victory in the next two games against the Colts and Titans. Love returned for a NFC North matchup against the undefeated Vikings and the Pack would lose their first game by just two points. Green Bay would respond, winning seven of their next eight with their only loss coming to the then undefeated Lions by 10 points. Matt LaFleur’s guys bounced back winning four of their next five, but there were those pesky Lions to hand them their fourth loss of the season a couple weeks ago to knock them out of the division race. Green Bay has only lost to elite teams, which means they are a good team but we can’t consider them an elite team until they beat a team in that category. They will have a chance to do so next week against the Vikings, and will obviously get the chance in the playoffs if and when they clinch their Wild Card spot.

Season recap: Saints

Remember way back in at the start of the season when the Saints rolled through the first two weeks of the season scoring 91 combined points against the Panthers and Cowboys and all of the sudden we were considering New Orleans as a powerhouse in the league? That ended quite suddenly. Injuries racked up and so did the losses. They would lose to the Eagles 15-12 in Week 3, but that didn’t depict the trouble that was to come. They lost seven in a row and plummeted from the top of the league in the first couple weeks of the season to the bottom of the NFC South with the Carolina Panthers. That forced a coaching changing in New Orleans as Dennis Allen was let go and Darren Rizzi was named the interim coach in early November following the Saints 7th straight loss. Since then the Saints have won 2 of their last 4 and have been competitive in both of their losses. Tonight that’s all they can hope to do coming in with another massive injury list.

Last game: Packers

The Packers went into Seattle did what they have been doing for the last few weeks. They received the ball to start the game and smacked the Seahawks around from the start of the. They scored on back to back possession with a Josh Jacobs rushing TD and a Jordan Love pass to Romeo Doubs in the first quarter. That would set the tone for the rest of the game as the defense stood strong allowing just one TD holding Seattle to just 208 total yards. Love went 20/29 for 229 yards and Jacobs had 94 yards rushing and a TD to put the Packers in a position to clinch a playoff spot tonight in primetime.

Last game: Saints

The Saints met a Commanders team that was fresh off their BYE week and it showed in the first half. Washington came out guns blazing on both sides of the ball as Jayden Daniels passed for two first half TDs and the defense kept the Saints to just 28 first half yards, forcing four punts and picking off Jake Haener once to take a 14-0 lead into the halftime break. Spencer Rattler came out of the break as the Saints new quarterback and things immediately started to turn around. He connected on a 39 yard pass to Marquez Valdes-Scantling for a 39 yard pass, more than NO had in the first half combined, and then a trick play in which Cedric Wilson threw a pass to Alvin Kamara put the Saints on the board for the first time. A couple of fourth quarter field goals closed the gap to 20-13 and the Saints would get a chance to tie or take the lead on the final play drive of the fourth quarter. Rattler drove his team down the field and hit Foster Moreau on the final play of the game for a TD, and NO went for two to win the game in regulation. Rattler’s pass to Jauan Johnson fell incomplete and the Commanders survived.
