Josh Jacobs holding out

He was the NFL’s leading rusher last year, and now Josh Jacobs wants to be paid like a leading rusher in the NFL, but the Raiders don’t seem too keen on showing their fifth year running back a big pay day. He has stated that he is prepared to sit out the entire preseason, and even more if his demands are not met. Last year Jacobs ran for 1,653 yards and and scored 12 rushing TDs in the last year of his rookie contract. The Raiders have offered him a franchise tag deal, but Jacobs want the security of a long term deal, but is seems like Las Vegas doesn’t want to gamble on their star running back.

as.com

Jimmy G dressed in black and silver

He is unlikely to play tonight, but it didn’t take long for Jimmy G to run into his former team. Garoppolo signed with the Raiders this year after six seasons in San Francisco. The 31 year old QB now takes his talents to the City of Sin looking to lead this team back to relevance in the AFC, but it looks like he may have to do it with out running back Josh Jacobs, at least until the hold out comes to an end.

as.com

QB competition heating up

It’s probably the juiciest QB competition of this preseason. Trey Lance was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers to take the place of Jimmy Garoppolo. He did so for the first couple weeks of last season, until suffering a devastating ankle injury which would keep him out for the entire season. Out of nowhere Brock Purdy came to the Niners rescue when Jimmy G went down with a season ending injury. Now Kyle Shanahan has a decision to make. Does he go with the QB the franchise drafted to be the face of the franchise? Or does he go with the young QB who took this team to the NFC Championship in his first year in the NFL?

as.com

Raiders back at home

There is a lot of pressure on Josh McDaniels to produce in Las Vegas this year. His first venture as a head coach didn’t work out as well as people expected, and after returning to the Patriots as the offensive coordinator, he was given another chance by the Davis family. He is an offensive minded, QB specialist and but in his first year in Vegas, the relationship between coach and QB quickly deteriorated. Now McDaniels has a QB who has led his team to deep playoff runs, and will be hoping to bring that same success to the City of Sin.

Niners new era begins

The San Francisco 49ers are in a transition phase as they are looking not just for success now, but long term success. The good news is they have the a fantastic defense, an armory full of weapons on the offensive end, and a coach that has been to the Super Bowl before. It seems like this is a team that could be built to stick around for a long time, but that will all depend on their who is playing under center.

as.com

Niners last season

Somehow, some way the San Francisco 49ers made it to the NFC Championship despite losing their top two QBs and entrusting a rookie to take hold of a team that held heavy Super Bowl expectations. He looked like a seasoned vet, outdoing himself week after week while leading the Niners to win the NFC West. A mid season trade that brought Christian McCaffery to the Bay certainly helped the rookie QB and Kyle Shanahan’s offense, but Brock Purdy would get injured in the Conference Championship game, and so would the fourth string quarterback, leaving the Niners with no chance of getting back to the Super Bowl.

as.com

Raiders last year

It was Josh McDaniel’s first season as head coach of the Raiders, and it was a bumpy one. They lost four of their first five games and would wind up with just six wins, missing the playoffs of the fifth time in the last six years. McDaniels essentially cut ties with Derek Carr who didn’t even travel with the team towards the end of the year, and if there was anything the Raiders could hang their hat on coming into this season, it was their running back Josh Jacobs who is currently in an ugly hold out situation.

We are live from Las Vegas

Hello everyone and welcome to Allegiant Stadium where it may be Week 1 of preseason, but both these teams have plenty to sort out before the opening week of the regular season in four weeks time. The Niners flirted with the Super Bowl last season, and are expecting to be in the same position this year but they have to figure out who is going to be their QB going forward. The Raiders axed their former QB at the end of the season and now have the Niners former gunslinger under center, but are facing a lengthy hold out from their star running back.
