Update:

The Seattle Seahawks have become one of the NFL’s most compelling modern franchises, and their history on the league’s biggest stage reflects a mix of dominance, near‑misses, and unforgettable moments.

As they prepare to face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX, let’s take a look back at how Seattle got here, and what their biggest games have meant to the franchise’s identity.

Seahawks Super Bowl appearances: Three classics before Super Bowl LX

The Seahawks have reached the Super Bowl three times before this season, and each trip tells a very different story.

1. Super Bowl XL (2006 season) - Lost to Pittsburgh Steelers, 21‑10

Seattle’s first Super Bowl came after a breakout year in 2005. Led by Matt Hasselbeck and Pro Bowl running back Shaun Alexander, the Seahawks dominated much of the regular season but couldn’t outscore the Steelers in their first championship game.

2. Super Bowl XLVIII (2013 season) - Defeated Denver Broncos, 43‑8

This was the high point of Seahawks’ Super Bowl history and one of the most dominant performances in championship history. Seattle’s suffocating defense, later dubbed the “Legion of Boom”, throttled a Broncos offense led by Peyton Manning. The Seahawks scored on a safety, return, and defensive touchdown, a rare trifecta in a Super Bowl.

3. Super Bowl XLIX (2014 season) - Lost to New England Patriots, 28‑24

One year after their blowout win, the Seahawks returned to the Big Game and nearly repeated a victory. With the ball inside the Patriots’ 1‑yard line late in the fourth quarter, Seattle opted to pass, and the throw was intercepted by New England’s Malcolm Butler, a play that instantly became one of the most talked-about in NFL history.

How the 2025 Seahawks rewrote expectations

After years of playoff runs with varying results, the 2025 Seahawks have now built something special. They finished the regular season with a 14‑3 record and won the NFC West. Under second‑year head coach Mike Macdonald, Seattle secured the No. 1 seed in the NFC and then won the NFC Championship by beating the Rams. They’ve combined stingy defense and balanced offense, a blueprint that helped them stave off one of the league’s toughest playoff rivals.

Oddsmakers and bettors have taken notice too, with the Seahawks opening as favorites over the Patriots in Super Bowl LX and sitting ahead on many early prop boards.

A win would give Seattle its second Lombardi Trophy and rewrite part of its narrative, from a franchise with a single title to one with a genuine championship dynasty threat.

And even if they fall short again, the Seahawks’ Super Bowl history — wins, losses, and all — shows they belong in the conversation every time February comes around.
