Seahawks 23 vs 41 49ers summary: Wild Card stats and highlights | NFL Playoffs
The San Francisco 49ers are on to the next round of the playoffs after blowing out the Seattle Seahawks for their 11th straight win. Brock Purdy had four total touchdowns in the Niners 41-23 victory at Levi’s Stadium.
Niners make it three in a row over Seahawks
Kyle Shanahan’s team heard all week long how tough it is to beat a side three times in a season, but they came in and didn’t just defeat their divisional rivals, they crushed them.
It was a tale of two halves as the Niners struggled on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball at moments in the first half. Purdy looked understandably nervous in his first playoff game, but settled down as the game went on to start his NFL career with a perfect 6-0 record.
San Francisco scored on their first two possessions after the defense forced Seattle into two straight three and outs to being the game. After Brock Purdy’s seven yard TD pass to Christian McCaffery put the Niners up 10-0, San Fran seemed to take their foot off the gas pedal.
San Fran went to half down by one
Geno Smith had a near perfect start to the game, going 9/10 in the first half, and led a long touchdown drive capped off by a Kenneth Walker III touchdown run to cut the lead to 10-7.
The Niners would get stopped for the second time in three trips to the red zone on the next possession which allowed the Seahawks to take the lead on a 50 yard bomb from Smith to DK Metcalf with five minutes to go in the first half.
Robbie Gould would put the Niners back in the lead with 13 seconds to go in the second quarter, but a mental lapse by Jimmie Ward put the Seahawks in field goal range with a late hit on the last play of the first half. Jason Meyers drilled the kick from 56 yard to put the Seahawks up 17-16 to seemingly give the Seahawks the momentum going into the half.
Second half to remember for San Fran
The Niners came out to play in the second half, the Seahawks did not. They rattled off 25 straight points to cruise past the Seahawks as Purdy went 9/11 and had 185 of his 332 yards in the second half. San Fran put together their longest drive of the season coming out of the break as McCaffery pounded the ball up the field and Purdy had a QB sneak to give the Niners the lead back.
All year long the SF defense has come up with big play after big play, and Saturday was no different. After the Seahawks lost their lead, they drove down inside the Niners 20 yard line, but Charles Omenihu strip sacked Geno Smith and Nick Bosa recovered the fumble to turn the tides in the first game of Super Wild Card Weekend.
In the opening minute of the fourth quarter, Purdy escaped the Seahawks rush as he did all night and found Elijah Mitchell for a 7 yard TD to extend the lead to 31-17 after a successful two point conversion pass to George Kittle.
Niners will await their opponent
The Niners weapons were on display all afternoon as Deebo Samuel broke a short pass loose, and took it for a 75 yard touchdown to shut the door on the Seahawks. Samuel had 32 yards on the ground and another 133 yards and a TD receiving. McCaffery had 119 yards on the ground and Aiyuk added another 73 yards.
The Niners know await the winner of either the Dallas vs. Tampa Bay game or the New York vs. Minnesota game.
The Wild Card Weekend action is not over! Make sure you check out the coverage of the late game as the Jacksonville Jaguars host the Los Angeles Chargers and our NFL guru David Nelson is on the case.

Seattle will start the game from the 20
Tonight's odds
According to Bet365.com the Niners are a heavy, 9.5 favorite, over the Seahawks and the Over/Under is set at 42.
That’s a lot of points to give a team that has lost two games against this team, plus a divisional rival, plus a playoff game.
Geno is vibing
The Seattle Seahawks dealt the face of their franchise, Russell Wilson, to the Denver Broncos and didn’t make an effort to try to replace him. While that came as a surprise to many, Pete Carroll and the Seahawks put all of their trust in Geno Smith and he has repaid them with a playoff appearance, and a 30 TD season (4th in the league) in which he passed for 4,282 yards (8th in league), while completing 69.8% of his passes (best in the NFL).
Midseason makeover
The Niners today look much different from the Niners team that started the season. They have seen two quarterbacks go down with season ending injuries, and made changes in the backfield that have seen San Fran go from a good team to a great team. They brought in Chrisitan McCaffery in a midseason trade and haven’t lost since. With the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft the Niners took Brock Purdy, hoping that maybe they could one day turn him into an important part of their team. Never did they think that he would be thrust into the QB1 spot in his first year, and now he’s doing the impossible. Playing almost perfect football and has the Niners going into the post season as one of the favorites to win it all.
First matchups this season
The Niners won both games against the Seahawks this season. The first one came in the second week of the season when Trey Lance went down with a season ending ankle injury early in the first half. Jimmy G came off the bench and tossed a TD, and ran a TD as the defense controlled Smith and the Seahawks offense. They met again in Week 15, and it was more of the same from the San Fran defense. They allowed a late touchdown late in the fourth quarter, but by that time the Niners were already up thanks to two Brock Purdy TD passes and a Christian McCaffery rushing TD had the Niners in cruise control mode to their seventh straight win.
How the West was won
The San Francisco 49ers had a rocky start to the season, as they shifted through quarterbacks Trey Lance and Jimmy G. Once things settled down under center, the Niners went on an epic run to end the season on a 10 game win streak to win the NFC West. The Seahawks wrapped up the final Wild Card spot with their win over the Rams the the Lions taking down the Packers at Lambeau.
Welcome to the big show Geno
No one thought the Seahawks would have this type of success with Geno Smith at quarterback. Pete Carroll went all in on his former back up and the gamble has paid off in a run to the playoffs. Tonight Smith gets his first start in the playoffs and he will be going up against the toughest defense in the league.
Purdy and Niners at Levi for first round
Brock Purdy has been the talk of the NFL over the last few months. He is yet to lose a game in his NFL career after taking over from Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 13. Since then Mr. Irrelevant has been nearly perfect, but everyone wants to know if this rookie can handle the pressure of the NFL playoffs?
Seattle sqeaks in
The Seahawks had a win and in situation at Lumen Field last week, and the Rams didn’t make it easy for them to make the playoffs. It couldn’t have been a worse start for Seattle, who saw Geno Smith get picked off by the Rams on the first play of the game. LA led the Seahawks 13-6 at the half, but in the first possession of the second half, Smith tied the game up with a 35 yard strike to Tyler Lockett. Seattle had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation, but Jason Meyers missed a 46 yard field goal to push the game to overtime. He got a chance at redemption midway through the extra session and banged home a 32 yard field goal to send the Seahawks to Super Wild Card Weekend after the Packers lost to the Lions later that night.
Niners last week
The Niners finished off their regular season in fashion with yet another blowout win, this time against the Cardinals. San Fran had a chance at the top seed in the NFC if they beat Arizona and the Eagles lost to the Giants. The Niners took care of business in the Bay, as Brock Purdy had 3 TDs and Elijah Mitchell added another two on the ground. The defense did what it has been doing all season, forcing turnovers, holding the opposing offense and making it easy on the 49ers offense. Coach Shannahan and San Fran took their foot off the pedal with a quarter still on the clock, but the Eagles blowout the Giants leaving the Niners with the second seed in the NFC.
We are live from San Fran
