Shedeur Sanders expected to sit out the NFL Scouting Combine

The Colorado quarterback is considered one of the top prospects for 2025 but he’s not going to be throwing at the Combine next week.

Update:

The 2025 NFL Scouting Combine will take the top prospects of the college game to Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin next week. All eyes will be on the biggest stars, but there’s one who will not be taking part.

CBS Sports reports that projected top ten pick Shedeur Sanders will not be throwing at the Combine. He will not work out alongside the rest of his cohort and will lose the opportunity to impress at the showcase event. However Sanders had previously hinted that he may not take part.

“I’m not sure,” Sanders said last month when asked whether he would throw at the Combine. “It’s a lot of work on my quarterback coach making sure I’m sharp, and I’m ready. I never want to go out there and half-step. I want to be my best at all times.”

Sanders appears content to rely on his game footage from a stellar season in the NCAA. He was the completion percentage leader (74%) last season and won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award as the nation’s top upperclassman QB. The son of a Pro Football Hall of fame cornerback Deion Sanders, Shedeur looks to have all the makings of a top NFL player and he’s going to take his time in picking a landing spot.

According to ESPN, although Sanders won’t take part in the throwing practice in Indianapolis he will use the event as an opportunity to meet with teams and establish the best option for him. Opting not to throw at the Combine may seem bold but it’s a decision made by a number of the biggest prospects of recent years.

Last year’s No. 1 pick, Caleb Williams, did not throw at the 2024. Neither did Jayden Daniels, the Washington Commanders QB who went on to be crowned Offensive Rookie of the Year. Shedeur Sanders is ranked as the No. 1 quarterback of his cohort in many projections and looks set to enjoy a storied career in the NFL. He just needs to make sure that his first step into the league is the right one.
