Steelers reveal Shedeur Sanders intentions
The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to finalize the names of players they will bet on in the upcoming NFL Draft.

The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to shape their NFL Draft strategy, holding six picks for 2025 and eyeing potential reinforcements under center. Their highest selection is at No. 21 overall, and recent developments have shifted their focus toward a surprise quarterback option.

General manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin have made it clear they want four quarterbacks for training camp. So far, the team has re-signed Mason Rudolph and added Skylar Thompson, formerly of the Miami Dolphins. But rumors persist around veteran Aaron Rodgers, whose future remains unresolved.
Now, another name has entered the conversation. In a draft twist, Shedeur Sanders, the quarterback from Colorado, could fall outside the top 10 picks, opening the door for Pittsburgh to make an unexpected move.

According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, Pittsburgh hadn’t originally planned to select a quarterback in Round 1 but is now re-evaluating its position.“Sources said the Steelers didn’t expect Sanders to drop outside the top 10. Now, all options are on the table, and they’re preparing in case Sanders is available,” Schefter reported.
The Shedeur factor and the Deion dilemma
Sanders enters the draft as one of the most polarizing QB prospects, having played at Colorado under the guidance of his father, Deion Sanders. While his college success is notable, NFL teams are weighing how he’ll adjust to the pro game without the same family support system.
Further complicating matters, any team that drafts Shedeur will likely face heightened media scrutiny and speculation around his father’s potential future coaching role. Deion Sanders recently signed a five-year, $54 million extension with Colorado, but buyout clauses could allow an NFL departure.
Deion’s buyout terms are:
- $12 million if he leaves in 2025
- $10 million in 2026
- $6 million in 2027
- $4 million in 2028
- $3 million in 2029
