Study reveals what we already knew: Eagles fans are way too obsessed with the Cowboys
It’s not a secret that the Philadelphia Eagles love to hate the Dallas Cowboys, but a recent study reveals just how absurdly far the obsession goes.
Even after winning the Super Bowl last season, the Philadelphia Eagles just can’t get the Dallas Cowboys out of their minds. Living in Europe, I encounter many people who are shockingly not familiar with the NFL and its rivalries. And to explain this one, I tell them, “The Eagles hate the Cowboys more than they like the Eagles.” And it’s true. There is now scientific evidence.

Cowboys live rent-free in Eagles’ heads - here’s the proof
The Dallas Cowboys haven’t won anything of significance since the 1990s, but America’s Team is still the most talked about, wealthiest, most popular, and apparently the team the Eagles are most obsessed with - even more than their own team.
We’ve always known this, but now there’s a study which proves it. Betting US looked at more than 1.5 million Reddit comments from subreddits relating to the NFL to see which team was the most talked about. They found that the Dallas Cowboys were talked about quite a lot by five different teams’ fan bases, but none more than Philly.
According to Inside the Star, these are the top five fan bases to mention the Cowboys:
- Philadelphia Eagles – 755 mentions
- San Francisco 49ers – 583 mentions
- Washington Commanders – 476 mentions
- New Orleans Saints – 363 mentions
- Green Bay Packers – 360 mentions
The Eagles and Cowboys will kick off the NFL season as the opening game on Thursday, September 4 at Lincoln Financial Field. There will be no shortage of Philly hate for Dallas on that day, no matter which of them wins.
