Super Bowl LVII did not disappoint. Between the two best teams in the NFL this year, there was sure to be exciting moments, close calls, and crazy plays. The Kansas City Chiefs came away with the victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, but it was a close game throughout the entire four quarters. Let’s take a look at some of the most exciting plays from tonight’s Super Bowl.

Super Bowl LVII: Top five plays

Mahomes’ 18-yard lob to Kelce on first drive

The Eagles started the game with a touchdown on their opening drive, which could have been discouraging. But the Chiefs responded right away with a touchdown of their own. Mahomes tossed an 18-yard pass to - who else? - Travis Kelce, the seemingly indefensible tight end. That tied up the game early on and kept the momentum going in the first quarter.

Toney’s 65-yard punt return

Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney caught a punt, was surrounded by Eagles defender, somehow escaped, and then ran the ball back 65 yards all the way to the 5-yard line. It was the longest punt return in Super Bowl history and it set up four-yard touchdown pass from Mahomes to Skyy Moore, giving the Chiefs a 35-27 lead in the 4th quarter.

Hurts record-breaking TD and 2-point conversion

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts broke two records during the Super Bowl, one of which was scoring three rushing touchdowns, the most by any quarterback in the Super Bowl. He broke Jim McMahon’s previous record from 1986 of two rushing touchdowns. Not only was his third TD record-breaking, but it was set up on a beautiful deep pass to DeVonta Smith, then allowed them to go for two, which they did, and which Hurts again successfully made, and tied up the game with just over two minutes left to play in the game.

Mahomes’ 26-yard run

Mahomes was playing the whole game with a high ankle sprain, but it was made worse in the 2nd quarter when he was tackled by that ankle and went limping off. It was noticeable at times, but barely. One of those times, ironically, was during an impressive 26-yard scramble. The Chiefs and Eagles were tied 35-35 with just under three minutes left in the 4th quarter and though Mahomes in perfect condition would have made it all the way into the end zone, that run was still great enough to put them in position to win the game, which brings us to the next play…

Butker’s game-winning field goal

Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker was the hero of the game. With the pressure on and 11 seconds to go, he made the game-winning, 27-yard field goal to give the Chiefs a 3-point lead and consequentially, the victory as the Chiefs were able to leave just little enough time to walk away Super Bowl champions.
