Super Bowl star nears Eagles exit: “I’ll just put it in God’s hands”
Just days after the Philadelphia Eagles clinched Super Bowl LIX, a key piece of that team may be heading for the exit.

Despite coming into the game as underdogs, the Philadelphia Eagles blew through the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LIX. The 40-22 score underplayed the Eagles' dominance, built on an incredible collective performance from the defensive unit.
A key part of that defence was Milton Williams, a fourth-year defensive tackle who was drafted by the Eagles in 2021. Williams contributed two sacks and a forced and recovered fumble against the Chiefs, a crowning performance in his breakthrough season.
But now, little more than a week after that triumph, Williams seemed to hint that he’s set for a lucrative move away.
What did Milton Williams say about his Eagles' contract?
The four-year deal signed by Williams back in 2021 expires this offseason, meaning that he is now free to pursue a move elsewhere. The Eagles would like to bring him back but his new salary demands may be prohibitive.
“Obviously, I’d love to be back in Philadelphia,” Williams told the Philadelphia Inquirer this week. “But right now, I’m just trying to enjoy this moment with my teammates. The rest of that is going to take care of itself. I’m pretty sure I’ll end up where I’m supposed to be. I’ll just put that in God’s hands.”

The 25-year-old will recognise that he could command a significant salary increase on the open market. His previous deal in Philadelphia contains an average annual salary of $1.3 million. Salary comparison site Spotrac estimated that he could expect around $12 million on the open market.
However the player insisted that the financial sums are not the only motivating factor for him as he considers his next move. Following on from the Super Bowl triumph, he wants to be in a competitive team.
“Just being in the right situation,” Williams explained, when asked what he is prioritising. “Valuing what I bring to the table. Obviously, a raise. But I want to win. I like this feeling of winning and being on top of the world. So definitely want to try to get in a situation as close to this as possible.”
