Tampa Bay Buccaneers 13 vs 6 New York Jets summary, stats, and highlights | NFL Preseason
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers took down the New York Jets in an offense struggle from Metlife Stadium on Saturday night. Kyle Trask played most of the game and had the game winning 33 yard TD to lead the Bucs to the 13-6 win.
Mayfield sits vs. Jets
The quarterback competition might be as tight as ever in Tampa Bay but it was Kyle Trask who got the majority of the reps as Baker Mayfield sat out the Bucs second preseason game. Trask’s numbers were pretty solid, and the sole touchdown of the game was enough as the TB defense locked down the Jets.
Not a lot happened in the first quarter as Trask and NY QB Zach Wilson traded possessions with out much success moving the ball. The Jets took the lead early in the second quarter with a Greg Zuerlein field goal, but a Zonovan Knight fumble allowed the Bucs to tie the game up when Rodrigo Blankenship hit a 35 yard field goal.
Wilson would lead another field goal drive, but just before the half Kyle Trask hit Trey Palmer on a 33 yard bomb to take the 10-3 lead. That would be all the Bucs needed as their defensive unit shut Tim Boyle and the Jets down for the rest of the night.
Trask makes his case for QB1
Wilson went 9/13 for 70 yards in the first half, but the highlight of his night was a 35 yard scramble that led to the second and final Jets field goal. Boyle went 13/24 for 106 yards but threw an interception on the first drive of the second half, saw Zuerlein miss a field goal on the next possession.
The Bucs defense closed out the game as Trask had to come back in the fourth quarter when John Wolford got carted off the field after suffering a neck injury. Trask ended the night 20/28 for 218 yards and threw the game’s only TD.
Both of these teams have one more warm up before having to trim the roster to 53 men and turn all the focus on Week 1 of the regular season.
With no Baker Mayfield available, Trask ended up coming back on to the field after John Wolford had to get carted off the field late in the third quarter, and he ended up 20'28 for 218 yards and a TD.
The Bucs took the lead just after the first half Two Minute Warning with this strike from Kyle Trask to Trey Palmer for a 33 yard TD.
Zach Wilson got the start for the third straight game, and went 9/13 for 70 yards, but the best play of his night was this 35 yard scramble.

WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM METLIFE STADIUM!!!
The Bucs get the ball first and they will start their opening drive from the 10 after a personal foul brings a great run back from Thompkins is taken off the board.
Wilson learning from the best
As long as Aaron Rodgers is healthy he is going to be the starting quarterback. That’s a given. But he has taken Zach Wilson under his wings, and even called him his little brother, and that seems to have given the QB who has had his fair share of ups and downs the confidence to put on a couple good performances in the preseason.
When will we see Rodgers?
Will he or won’t he? Aaron Rodgers has already eating up the Big Apple, and it seems like the city has the same sentiment without the four time QB even taking a snap in Jets green. While Jets fans are salivating for a first look at Rodgers it may not come before Week 1. Rodgers has earned the right not to need to suit up in preseason, and has stated before that he doesn’t see the point of going out for a few plays or a couple series. He’s on a new team with a new coach, but it seems like is preseason-less streak will continue this year. He’s not going to play tonight, and it’s doubtful he will in the Jets final tune up next week.
Jets back in the Big Apple
All eyes might be on Aaron Rodgers, but the Jets have some serious talent on their roster on both sides of the ball. Before the trade they were a playoff contender, but with the four time MVP they turned into one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl. While we may only see bits and pieces of the first team guys but that’s all Jets fans will need. CJ Mosley and the Jets are coming off a shutout over the Panthers, and looking to show out tonight at home.
Bucs in the Big Apple
The Bucs are weighing their options at the quarterback position, but they are pretty set at the wide receiver position which is why we didn’t see Chris Godwin or Mike Evans last week. Both Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask have been getting snaps with the first team, but game snaps are different from practice snaps. If the Bucs want a good indication of who is going to be under center in Week 1 they will have to give their QBs the proper weapons to impress.
QB competition getting hot in the Bay
The race for the QB1 job in Week 1 is well underway and there really isn’t much between Kyle Trask and Baker Mayfield. Whoever gets the nod in opening week will have some big shoes to fill after the greatest QB to ever play stepped away from the game. Mayfield opened camp as the favorite to get the gig, but Trask has proven to be a worthy adversary over the first few weeks of the preseason. Mayfield got the start against the Steelers last week, and if reports are true, Trask will get his chance with the first team tonight.
Mayfield went 8/9 for 63 yards and a TD to start the game, while Trask was 6/10 for 99 yards against the Steelers. Neither one did anything to secure the job in the first preseason game. Todd Bowles has a decision to make, and he may wait until the moments leading up to kick off in Week 1 from Minnesota.
Bucs last game
The Bucs start to the preseason didn’t quite go according to plan. Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask were in the spotlight as the quarterback competition continues to boil in the Bay, but the Bucs scored just 7 points through the first three quarters. Mayfield played four series, and led Tampa Bay to the end zone on his penultimate drive before Kyle Trask took over. It wasn’t until John Wolford came in at QB that the offense started to ignite, but by that time it was too later as the Bucs ran for just 66 yards and even more worrying gave up 127 yards on 12 penalties.
Jets last game
Last weeks game in Carolina couldn’t have gone much better for the Jets. Defensively they looked like they were in mid season form, keeping the lowly Panthers off the scoreboard throughout the entire game. Offensively, the second, third and fourth teams looked locked in as Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle combined for three TDs and the running game racked up 141 yards on the ground. Tonight they will look to carry that momentum into the final week of preseason and the season opener against the Bills.
We are live from Metlife
Hello everyone and welcome to the Meadowlands where the Jets are getting set for their third preseason game after kicking off the preseason in Canton, Ohio two weeks ago. We still haven’t seen the New York’s newest star, Aaron Rodgers, but we have got a good look at Zach Wilson and some of the guys farther down the depth chart. The Bucs are still trying to figure out who will be starting at quarterback Week 1, and they will be hoping that tonight sheds a little more light on the matter.
