Taylor Swift’s potential presence at Chiefs vs Jets spikes ticket prices: How much are we talking?
If anyone’s rooting for the supposed relationship between the pop star and star tight end, it’s got to be the NFL with ratings and ticket prices rising.
If you thought Messi’s effect on ticket prices was something to see, then you’ve got to see Taylor Swift’s. Fans hoping to head to the stadium to catch the Kansas City Chiefs vs. the New York Jets will have to pay a pretty penny to do so.
The Taylor Swift effect
As you probably saw in our previous report, pop star Taylor Swift is set to attend this weekend’s clash between the Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Jets. This, after the ‘Shake It Off’ singer was spotted sitting next to Donna Kelce - the mother of Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce - during the team’s blowout win over the Chicago Bears last Sunday. That is of course significant given the rumors that continue to swirl about a possible relationship between the pop star and Chiefs star. Indeed, those rumors were given further fuel after the two were spotted leaving the stadium together before reports confirmed that Kelce rented out a restaurant, at which he hosted a private dinner with Swift and some of his teammates.

What you may not know, however, is the knock-on effect of whatever is going on between the two. For starters, Kelce’s jersey sales have increased by 400%, while his Instagram account now has an additional 250,000 followers. As for the NFL, Sunday’s game was the No. 1 game of the week as it garnered 24.3 million total viewers, the most-watched NFL broadcast of the week on any network. Even more interesting is the fact that a new market segment was tapped, with female viewers aged 12-17 increasing by 8% compared with last year. On the whole, there was a jump in female viewership across all major demographics. Heck, even Heinz got in on the act with the announcement of a new “Ketchup and Seemingly Ranch” product after Swift was spotted eating chicken nuggets with both condiments at the game. This is all to say that the NFL likely wants the Swift/Kelce pairing to work as much as ‘Swifties’ do.
Taylor Swift spikes Chiefs vs Jets tickets
Now, while it has not been officially confirmed that Swift will be in attendance at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday, the idea that it’s been reported that she plans to be there was enough to send many Swifties into a craze for tickets. How much are we talking? According to comments from TicketSmarter, the site saw an 18.5% increase in ticket prices. To that end, the get-in price rose from $100 last week to $128 on Thursday, marking the Jets’ second-highest get-in price of the season, with some tickets going for as much as $2,109. To put that in perspective, the get-in price for the Jets’ November 6th, home game against the Los Angeles Chargers is $46.
As for the Chiefs themselves, home game ticket prices have also jumped significantly. According to TickPick, the platform sold more tickets in a single day than it has sold for the entire season following Swift’s appearance last weekend. Ultimately, the Taylor Swift effect is a real thing. Tickets for the Chiefs’ next home game against the Denver Broncos on October 12, are starting at around $219. This is all to say that the Taylor Swift effect is most definitely a real thing.
