Texans might consider trading for Mayfield, Garoppolo
The Houston Texans might be considering a trade for Baker Mayfield or Jimmy Garoppolo after all the NFL Draft excitement wraps up on Saturday.
All eyes are on the NFL Draft as teams try to build or strengthen their lineups, but the Houston Texans might be looking towards experience if they are indeed searching for a new quarterback.
Texans: Shopping for a new QB?
Baker Mayfield of the Cleveland Browns and Jimmy Garoppolo of the San Francisco 49ers are both expected to be traded in the foreseeable future, and with teams already indicating their interest in the two, the Texans are reportedly considering throwing their hat into the ring, according to Jeff Howe of The Athletic.
Houston made a deal with the Browns to trade away Deshaun Watson, who missed the entire 2021 season as he faced multiple lawsuits involving sexual misconduct.
Garoppolo meanwhile, is anticipating a trade as the 49ers appear ready to make Trey Lance, their first-round pick last year, their starting quarterback. The veteran signal-caller is still recovering from surgery on his throwing shoulder.
The fate of Davis Mills
Both Mayfield and Garoppolo have more experience than Davis Mills, whom the Texans currently employ as their starting quarterback. The 23-year-old had a solid performance in his rookie year, throwing for 2.664 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
The Texans had been vocal about their desire to continue with Mills as their starter, and had expressed that they were satisfied with the quarterbacks in their roster.
If Houston does end up trading for either Mayfield or Jimmy G, the franchise would be sending a clear message to Mills as to what his future with the team would look like.
