The holdout is over! Terry McLaurin signs an extension
The Washington Commanders finished their preseason without Terry McLaurin, but today the wide receiver signed a three year deal to end his holdout.
The wait is over. It took almost the entire preseason, but finally the Washington Commanders have agreed to a contact that will keep Terry McLaurin in the nation’s capital until 2028.
The wait is over
There was a tense standoff over the last month or so as the pass catcher negotiated his new deal with the team. There were talks of trades and holdouts lasting into the regular season, but alas the Commanders met his number and now both parties can start to focus on the season to come.
The deal is for three years, and worth $96 million. That averages out to $32 million a year which puts him in the top seven highest paid receivers in the league.
The new deal isn’t just a welcomed sight for McLaurin, but for his quarterback Jayden Daniels. Daniels relied on McLaurin more than anyone else on the receiving corp in his rookie season, and now entering his second season he is going to be hoping to add to that chemistry and build on a sensational first year together.
McLaurin has his QB of the future
McLaurin was drafted by the Commanders back in 2019 and came in and had an immediate impact catching 58 calls for 919 yards and seven touchdowns in his rookie season. Since then he has had 1,000 yards or more in each of the last five seasons, and he is coming off what might have been his best season ever.
The Commanders franchise receiver put up those stats with a quarterback carousel that would drive any receiver to the brink of exhaustion, but Washington got their QB of the future and as a result McLaurin was named to his first All-Pro team.
Now that the business end is taken care of, McLaurin and Daniels can start to focus on the season to come. It was a remarkable turnaround in Washington last season. The Commanders went from one of the worst teams in the league to the NFC Championship in less than 12 months, and they will be looking to take it one step further this season.
