Update:

The full 2026 NFL schedule will be revealed tonight, but we already know the opponents each team will face. And there are some revenge games on the calendar that will be sure to steal the spotlight. Whether it’s playoff heartbreak, offseason moves or coaching changes, revenge games carry an extra layer of meaning.

Here are the revenge games we have to look forward to in the 2026 season.

Patriots vs. Seahawks: A Super Bowl rematch with something to prove

A regular-season game rarely carries the emotional weight of a Super Bowl, but when the New England Patriots face the Seattle Seahawks in 2026, it will come close.

After being overwhelmed on the biggest stage, the Patriots will enter this matchup with motivation to show that the gap between the two teams is not as wide as it appeared in February. For a roster led by quarterback Drake Maye and an offense that was among the league’s most productive, the rematch represents an early opportunity to reestablish credibility against the defending champions.

Daniel Jones vs. the Giants: A reunion years in the making

Few revenge games carry more personal stakes than a quarterback facing his former team, and that will be the case when the Indianapolis Colts host the New York Giants.

Daniel Jones’ departure from New York was abrupt, going from franchise quarterback to release in a matter of days late in the 2024 season. His career resurgence in Indianapolis has reframed that decision, and if he enters 2026 healthy after his Achilles injury, this matchup could quickly become one of the most anticipated on the schedule. For the Giants, it’s a chance to validate moving on. For Jones, it’s something else entirely.

Baker Mayfield vs. Kevin Stefanski: A rivalry that never cooled

The NFC South matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons already carries divisional stakes, but the presence of head coach Kevin Stefanski adds to the drama.

Mayfield has been open about his frustrations with how his time in Cleveland ended under Stefanski, and he hasn’t shied away from revisiting that history publicly. With Stefanski now in Atlanta, every meeting between these teams will carry added intensity, especially after the Falcons’ late-season surge denied Tampa Bay another division title. This is the rare case where the animosity has been clearly stated, and will be closely watched.

Trey Hendrickson faces Cincinnati: From contract drama to division war

When the Baltimore Ravens meet the Cincinnati Bengals, the rivalry hardly needs additional fuel. But Trey Hendrickson’s move to Baltimore has added exactly that.

After a prolonged and public dispute with Cincinnati’s front office, Hendrickson now gets two opportunities to face his former team and quarterback Joe Burrow in one of the league’s most physical divisions. Unlike many revenge games, this one has already been defined by outspoken frustration, making it one of the more emotionally charged matchups on the calendar.

Brian Daboll’s Giants reunion: Titans vs. New York

Coaching changes often produce more quiet revenge narratives, but the meeting between the Tennessee Titans and Giants will be anything but subtle.

Brian Daboll’s move to Tennessee as offensive coordinator, along with several former Giants players joining him, has effectively created a familiar dynamic on the Titans’ sideline. At the same time, former Titans head coach Brian Callahan is now part of New York’s staff.

With so much crossover between the two organizations, this game will feel like a direct continuation of unfinished business.

Mike McDaniel returns to Miami: Chargers vs. Dolphins

The Los Angeles Chargers traveling to face the Miami Dolphins may not immediately stand out, but it happens to carry significant personal stakes.

After being dismissed in Miami, Mike McDaniel quickly resurfaced as the Chargers’ offensive coordinator, bringing his aggressive, creative system with him. His return to South Florida presents an opportunity to prove that his departure was premature, particularly if his offense thrives against his former team. Given McDaniel’s track record, this is a matchup that could get out of hand quickly.

Significance of the revenge games

As the 2026 schedule is revealed, these matchups are likely to be highlighted, flexed into prime-time slots and discussed well beyond their immediate implications. And as history has shown, when personal stakes collide with elite competition, the results tend to be unforgettable.
