Two teams who were forecasted to make the playoff have started the first month of the season off with shades of doubt. The Indianapolis Colts will travel to the Mile High City to take on the Denver Broncos to get Week 5 started on Thursday Night Football.

Colts cold start

The Colts have been one of the biggest disappointments of the early part of the season. After bringing Matt Ryan in during the offseason to pair with MVP candidate Johnathan Taylor, the Colts quickly became one of the teams that people were talking about not just to win the division, but the conference.

Things have not gone to plan for the Colts through four weeks. They opened their season off with a tie to the currently winless Houston Texans, and then got blown out by the Jacksonville Jaguars who were the worst team in the league last year. A home win over a tough Kansas City team gave Indy fans a much needed ray of sunshine that allowed the Colts faithful to believe in this team, but Sunday’s loss to the Tennessee Titans gave Frank Reich’s side a reality check that sent them spiraling once again.

Denver’s defense dominating

Indy is looking for a bounce back on a short week, but will have to go to Denver and take on the Broncos fantastic defense. It’s been the offense that has been the issue since Week 1 when they fumbled on the goal line twice against the Seattle Seahawks and lost their opener. 17-16 They got in the win column in Week 2 when they beat the Texans but only managed one touchdown, just as they did in their 11-10 win over the 49ers the next week.

There were boo birds were directed at the offense in Denvers two home games, but the Broncos defense is top five in yards allowed (284 per game, 4th) and points conceded (16.8 per game, 5th).

When Russell Wilson was brought to Denver this offseason, it was never imagined that the offense would be the liability on this team. So far the Broncos have been toothless when they get into red zone getting into the end zone just 30% of the time. That’s the reason they average a 16.5 points per game which is third lowest in the league. The only teams that score less the Broncos are the Chicago Bears and the Indianapolis Colts. So get set for a low scoring game in the Mile High City.
