Titans waive Jamarco Jones after brawl during training camp but what exactly happened?
Following what can only be described as a turbulent training camp, the Titans have decided to cut ties with the OL who seems to have caused several fights.
Football is a physical game this is clear, and with that, it’s expected that tempers can run hot. Even more so when you’re fighting for a starting spot on a roster of an NFL team during a summer heat wave. On the other hand, football is also a team sport and when you find yourself being responsible for several conflicts, questions are going to be asked.
Titans release Jarmaco Jones after near brawl
According to reports, the Tennessee Titans have closed the door on offensive lineman Jamarco Jones such that he will no longer have the hope of securing a spot on the roster. On Thursday, Jones was waived by the franchise after he started multiple fights during training camp, which even led to him being removed from practices. Comments on the team’s official website indicate that Jones was not only involved in serious altercations but moreover, they occurred in back-to-back training sessions. To that end, the franchise made clear that his involvement in the altercations was the base reason for his dismissal.
Where specifics are concerned, it’s understood that on Thursday Jones made a block which in turn “nearly sparked “nearly sparked a brawl with irate defensive players.” Seemingly involved in a number of conflicts including one with defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons, the 27-year-old had to be removed from the practice field. “I think you have to just know how to practice,” Titans head coach Mike Vrabel said on Thursday after Jones’ ejection from camp. “We talk all the time about being competitive and going to that line. Certainly not going to do anything that hurts the team. We don’t want to see that.”
What Jarmaco Jones lost
Jones made his first foray into the NFL after being selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round of 2018′s Draft. From 2019 to 2021 he would go on to play in a total of 36 games, starting in seven of them. This in turn led him to the Titans who acquired him during the last offseason, however, he did not feature in 2022 as he was placed on injured received, which brings us to the current scenario. To be clear, the former Ohio State left tackle had a decent chance of securing the starting spot at right tackle to begin the season. With Nicholas Petit-Frere suspended for the first six games of the season after violating the league’s gambling policy, there was most definitely a free spot. Needless to say, that’s now a memory and nothing more. As for the Titans themselves, they will now likely have to look to veteran OL Chris Hubbard who was signed just last week. There’s also Jaelyn Duncan, a 2023 sixth-round pick, and John Ojukwu, a 2023 undrafted free agent in the mix, but one has to believe that Hubbard will get the nod given his experience.
