The marriage of NFL legend Tom Brady and supermodel Gisele Bündchen was one of the most talked-about celebrity relationships of all-time. However in October 2022, after 13 years of marriage, they shocked the world by filing for divorce.

In announcing the news both Brady and Bündchen shared similar messages on Instagram saying that “co-parenting” would be their priority. They have two children together, Benjamin and Vivian, while Brady also has son Jack, who he had with former girlfriend Bridget Moynahan.

In breaking the news to his followers, Brady said that the couple had “arrived at this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together.”

Brady and Bündchen continue to share parenting responsibilities and have joint custody for both of their children. Slightly more complicated, however, is the division of their extensive property portfolio built up during more than a decade of marriage. Here’s what we know about their real estate situation...

Brady and Bündchen’s global property portfolio

At points in their careers both Brady and Bündchen were the highest-paid individuals in their respective, highly-lucrative fields. As such the Brazilian supermodel and NFL star racked up an impressive portfolio of real estate with properties across the United States and even overseas.

Florida

At the time of their divorce Brady and Bündchen were living in Miami, Florida. Brady was playing for the Tampa Bay Bucaneers at the time and needed a base near to the team’s home field. In 2020 the couple purchased a $17 million property on the exclusive Indian Creek Island in Miami Beach. Known for its extensive security measures, the island is home to several other famous residents, including Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner. The Brady-Bündchen property was a 30,000-square-foot waterfront estate that boasts seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a six-car garage, two boat lifts and an 80-foot-long saltwater lap pool.

Massachusetts

Prior to his stint with the Bucs, Brady spent 18 years with the New England Patriots and bought and sold a number of residences in the Boston area. Most recently the family lived in an expansive suburban compound in Brookline, Massachusetts. The 9,716-square-foot mansion featured five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a 20-car cobblestone motor court, a wine room, gym and spa. It was custom-built in 2015 and designed by the same architect, Richard Landry, who had previously built a home for the couple in Los Angeles.

Bündchen was particularly fond of an area to the rear of the property with an organic herb and vegetable garden, a pool and a 2,400-square-foot barn-style guest house. She described it as a “sanctuary where I spend most of my time.” The couple listed the home for sale in August 2019 for $39.5 million, even though Brady had agreed to continue playing for the Patriots the following season. In October the asking price was lowered to $33.9 million and the property was finally sold for $33 million in January 2021.

California

Towards the start of their relationship Brady and Bündchen purchase a plot of land in Brentwood, California. In 2008 they used it as the site of a 13,890-square-foot seafront mansion. The property featured a pool house, cobblestone drive and, most impressively, a moat. The couple listed the house for $50 million in 2014 and eventually sold it to music mogul Dr. Dre for $40 million.

New York

The Brady-Bündchens have owned a few apartments in New York City, one of which was sold for $40 million in 2020. They also owned a 3,310-square-foot space on the 48th floor of a luxury tower overlooking the Flatiron district home, with four bedrooms and three baths. It was purchased in 2014 for $11.7 million but put up for sale again for $17.25 million two years later. It was re-listed in 2018 for $14 million but the final sale price was not disclosed.

Costa Rica

Away from the United States the famous couple are known to have owned at least one overseas property together. They owned a hilltop beach retreat in Costa Rica. The sprawling villa is cloaked by a shield of trees and offered a private getaway for one of the world’s most famous couples. The family spent much of the covid-19 pandemic holed up in the remote home.
