Travis Hunter could make history at NFL Combine
The dual threat out of Colorado is making his NFL Combine debut this week, and he’ll participate in drills for both wide receiver and cornerback.
After a stunning final season playing for Deion Sanders' Colorado Buffaloes, Travis Hunter won the Heisman Trophy. What makes him stand out above the rest is that he’s not just a stellar player at one position - he’s a stellar player at two.
And at the NFL Combine this week, scouts will get to see that talent on display yet again as Hunter performs drills for both the offensive wide receiver position and the defensive cornerback position.
Travis Hunter paving the way for future NFL Combine evaluations
Although Hunter is listed as a cornerback at the Combine officially, he is going to perform drills at both positions. Fortunately for him, those two skills are showcased on separate days. The defensive backs perform on Friday, while the wide receivers will work out on Saturday, giving Hunter some time to recover.
NFL Combine Workouts:
- Thursday, Feb. 27, beginning 3 p.m. ET: Defensive linemen, linebackers
- Friday, February 28, beginning 3 p.m. ET: Defensive backs, tight ends
- Saturday, March 1, beginning 2 p.m. ET: Quarterbacks, wide receivers, running backs
- Sunday, March 2, beginning 2 p.m. ET: Offensive linemen
Hunter plays both positions exceptionally well, with it being impossible to determine at which he excels more. At Colorado, he earned a first-team All-Pac selection for his work as a defensive back. In his final season, he not only earned the Heisman Award, but also the Biletnikoff Award as best wide receiver and the Bednarik Award as best defensive player.

Whether or not an NFL team will allow Hunter to continue playing at two positions has been a big question. So, how he performs at the Combine could go a long way in determining that. And if he’s able to do well at both, it could change the way that NFL teams evaluate dual-threat players in the future.
