Travis Kelce tells reporters: “I’ve thrown that thing in the trash”
The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to bounce back from a crushing defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in last season’s Super Bowl.

As the Kansas City Chiefs continue their preparations for the 2025 season, Travis Kelce is gearing up for his 13th season in the NFL.
Kelce had to be reminded of that fact at a press conference on Wednesday, the Chiefs’ longest-serving player asking reporters: “What is this, my 13th year now?”
Kelce was then asked about his goals for the season, and whether he had taken any time to think the disappointing Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this year. The Chiefs were in the hunt for a historic three-peat championship but the Eagles blasted past them with a 40-22 rout.
Six months on, Kelce insists that he has put the loss behind him: “I’ve thrown that thing in the trash.”
“I’ve moved on. It happened sooner than you can imagine. I was pretty focused on this year in the offseason.”

"I've been lucky to be here 13 years. I just absolutely love this organization, this team... What gives me more juice than anything is that we've created this culture, this machine... What we're doing here is special." #ChiefsKingdom pic.twitter.com/BrUxFfheR4
Kelce was on the receiving end of some criticism in the aftermath of that chastening loss. At 35 years old, Kelce is not getting any younger and his 39-yard performance at the Super Bowl raised some question marks over his future with the Chiefs. He quickly brushed aside any talk of retirement and is enjoying his time in the NFL once again.
“You’ve got to go through the dog days and enjoy it for what it is, man,” Kelce said on Wednesday. “We’re rocking and rolling, man. It’s training camp, so you’re going to feel the soreness and the heavy workload you’re getting every day. You’ve got to enjoy it for what it is and fight through that.”
Kelce’s numbers were down in 2024 but his big game credentials still mean a lot in a game of such fine margins. He made the Pro Bowl for the tenth consecutive season last year and was named in the NFL All-Decade Team for the 2010s. He has already won three Super Bowls with the Chiefs and would dearly love to add another to the collection.
“I love it here,” Kelce said of Kansas City, the only team that he has represented in his storied professional career. “It gets me away from everything else that’s going on in this crazy world. You can really just focus in on your craft and focus in on being the best you can for the guys around you, man.
“Football has always been the biggest driving force I’ve ever had. I love coming out here and focusing on this and getting better for another run at hopefully a Super Bowl.”
