As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare to host the Houston Texans in a hugely-anticipated divisional playoff matchup, Travis Kelce is embracing the frigid forecast with open arms – and maybe a few vocal warm-ups. The star tight end isn’t just ready for the cold... he thrives in it.

“I’m not going to lie, man. I’m an Ohio football guy, baby,” Kelce said during a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.

“I love it when it’s just cold and snowy and you just get all the elements mixed into one. And I’m not going to say that I’m hoping for that, but I definitely love it because it adds a little bit more to how dramatic the game can be, or at least feel.”

You can listen to all he had to say, including hints at new releases from Taylor Swift, below:

Travis Kelce screams for the cold

Kelce’s enthusiasm for wintry conditions is well-documented. In last year’s game at Arrowhead Stadium, where temperatures plummeted to -4°F with a -17°F wind chill, Kelce deployed an unconventional tactic: screaming. Yes, screaming. Cameras caught him shouting at full volume on the sidelines to keep warm. “I just like screaming right now,” he admitted with a grin. “You’ve got to keep it warm, you know what I mean?”

While screaming may not have scientific backing, it worked for Kelce, who braved the icy, rock-hard field to help secure a win. For Saturday’s game against the Texans, with forecasts predicting temperatures in the single digits, don’t be surprised if Kelce is back at it, yelling into the cold Kansas City air.

The Chiefs, led by Patrick Mahomes and Kelce, have a 15-2 record and have been resting since securing the AFC’s No. 1 seed in late December. While the Texans arrive fresh off a dominant win over the Chargers, Kelce and his teammates have used their downtime to prepare for another postseason push, potentially their third straight Super Bowl appearance.

The drama of playoff football is what Kelce lives for, and the cold only adds to the theater. “It’s a little bit more of a mental game when it’s freezing out there,” he said. But if Kelce’s history in frigid conditions is any indicator, the Texans might want to bring more than just their playbooks to Kansas City – they’ll need their thermals too. And maybe his chilling, or should I say un-chilling, secret will catch on too.

Kickoff is set for Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET at Arrowhead Stadium, and we at AS USA will, of course, be bringing you all the action live as it happens.
