Two unfortunate reasons why Shedeur Sanders could struggle as Browns face Bears in Week 15
He impressed in Week 14, but there’s a whole new look to the next challenge for the famous son.
Shedeur Sanders looked every bit like a franchise quarterback in Week 14, slicing up the Titans for more than 360 passing yards and accounting for four total touchdowns. It was a a performance that quickly moved him up the order. But the circumstances surrounding Cleveland’s Week 15 trip to Chicago suggest the rookie may face a much tougher afternoon, even if his confidence remains intact.
Who will Sanders be missing in Chicago?
The biggest issue is what Sanders will be missing around him. Tight end David Njoku and rookie running back Dylan Sampson are both ruled out, removing two of Cleveland’s most dependable options. Njoku’s size and experience have made him a go-to target in traffic, while Sampson has quietly become an important outlet in the passing game, especially on broken plays.
Without them, Sanders will be asked to rely more heavily on less proven receivers and tighter throwing windows. That challenge is compounded by the absence of guard Wyatt Teller, weakening interior protection and increasing the likelihood of pressure up the middle. For a young quarterback still building chemistry, that could quickly disrupt timing and decision-making.
Could the weather influence Browns vs Bears?
The second hurdle has nothing to do with the Bears themselves. Soldier Field is expected to deliver punishing conditions, with subzero temperatures and dangerous windchills likely throughout the game. Cold weather has a way of neutralizing high-powered passing attacks, making ball control and field position far more important.
Sanders has brushed off concerns, emphasizing mental toughness and preparation. Still, grip issues, reduced velocity and numbed hands are realities that even veteran quarterbacks struggle to overcome.
Taken together, Cleveland’s depleted supporting cast and Chicago’s brutal weather form an unforgiving backdrop, especially considering how the Bears have been playing. Sanders may still flash his talent, but Week 15 sets up as a far less forgiving stage than his breakout performance suggested. One thing is for sure, we’ll all be watching…
