Minnesota picked up draft capital in the latest trade and quickly turned attention to a player reunion.

Vikings eye familiar face on the back of Sam Howell trade

The Minnesota Vikings have reshaped their roster, moving quarterback Sam Howell to the Philadelphia Eagles in a deal that netted them extra draft capital.
We have agreed to acquire QB Sam Howell and a 2026 6th-round pick from the Vikings in exchange for a 2026 5th-round pick and a 2027 7th-round pick. We have waived/injured DB Lewis Cine. pic.twitter.com/EXb7p6tCyq

For this, Minnesota received a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 seventh-rounder, while sending Howell and a 2026 sixth-rounder to Philly. Howell now joins Jalen Hurts and Tanner McKee in the Eagles’ quarterback room.
But the trade wasn’t only about shuffling quarterbacks. It may set up a bigger move.
By adding an extra pick via trade this morning, the Vikings now have added ammunition to go trade for a wide receiver. They have inquired on former Vikings WR Adam Thielen, but Carolina has been reluctant to deal the respected and productive veteran. https://t.co/LE7ABd5jfi

Why the Vikings are calling Carolina
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Minnesota has already made inquiries about Adam Thielen, the longtime Viking who spent nine seasons in purple before joining the Carolina Panthers. Thielen, now 34, remained one of Carolina’s most reliable targets last year and is widely respected for his consistency and leadership.
Carolina, however, has so far resisted – although the player’s wife seemed keen to get involved. The Panthers are said to be reluctant to deal the veteran receiver, who provides both production and stability for a young roster.
What extra draft picks mean for Minnesota
By adding two future picks, the Vikings gain flexibility. Extra mid-to-late round ammunition often fuels in-season trades, especially for teams chasing a playoff spot. If Minnesota decides a wide receiver is the missing piece, they now have more leverage to get it done.
