Update:

Rumors have been swirling in the NFL world about a potential reunion in Minnesota. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Vikings reached out to the Carolina Panthers to inquire about the possibility of bringing wide receiver Adam Thielen back to Minnesota.

The timing of the inquiry makes sense: the Vikings’ wide receiver room has been hit hard in recent weeks. Justin Jefferson is still working his way back from a hamstring issue, Jordan Addison is suspended for the first three games of the season, Jalen Nailor is recovering from a hand injury, and Rondale Moore has already been lost for the year with a knee injury.

Thielen, 35, spent nine seasons in Minnesota before joining the Panthers in 2023. He quickly became a franchise icon thanks to his production and Minnesota roots, earning two Pro Bowl selections. He also showed last year that he can still produce, leading Carolina in receiving yards.

According to Schefter, the Vikings and Panthers have discussed the trade in depth, but the two sides have yet to find common ground on compensation.

Thielen has made it clear he would like to return to the Vikings, where he became a hometown hero during his nine-year run in Minnesota. But while interest is mutual, trade negotiations have stalled as the Panthers and Vikings continue to differ on what a fair deal looks like.

For now, both teams remain in discussions, but unless compensation hurdles are cleared, a Thielen reunion with the Vikings will have to wait.
