Watch: Saints interim coach Darren Rizzi explodes at rookie punter Matthew Hayball on sidelines
New Orlean Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi lost his cool on rookie punter Matthew Hayball during their game against the New York Giants.
New Orleans Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi is going viral for exploding on rookie punter Matthew Hayball during their game against the New York Giants on Sunday.
Have a look...
Why did Rizzi yell at Hayball on the sidelines?
Rizzi is the Saints' interim coach and before that, he was a special teams coordinator for 30 years, so he pays close attention to those details. Hayball, an undrafted free agent, punted the ball on fourth down and Giants wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette caught the punt and took it all the way back to the end zone.
The call was overturned on a penalty on the Giants, but Rizzi was not happy with Hayball, who didn’t put the ball where Rizzi wanted it. That resulted in a scolding so intense, Rizzi looked like he may pop a vein.
Saints running back Alvin Kamara had to step in and break up the heated altercation. The whole exchange was met with mixed reactions on social media, with some praising the new coach’s intensity and passion. Others criticized him for losing his temper and praised Kamara for breaking it up.
