Chargers’ Biadasz signing sends ripples across NFL center market before free agency
The Los Angeles Chargers have signed center Tyler Biadsz to a three-year, $30 million deal, narrowing options for Panthers and other teams.

The Los Angeles Chargers made a splash before the start of NFL free agency, agreeing to a three-year, $30 million deal with veteran center Tyler Biadasz. Biadasz, who was recently released by the Washington Commanders after being slated to make $8.3 million, now lands in LA with a raise.

Center market dominoes fall as Chargers lock up Biadasz
Before the Chargers landed Biadasz, much of the NFL’s attention was on Tyler Linderbaum, the top center available in free agency and widely expected to command a record-setting deal. Linderbaum, currently with the Baltimore Ravens, was thought to be a potential fit for LA, Carolina, or other teams looking to anchor their offensive line.
This move not only fills a need for the Chargers following the retirement of Bradley Bozeman but also shakes up the market for other top centers. With Biadasz off the board, teams like the Carolina Panthers now face a narrower field in their search for a potential replacement for Cade Mays, who is likely on the move himself.
Biadasz, a six-year NFL veteran and 2020 fourth-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys, brings experience and stability to the Chargers offensive line. While slightly older than Mays, Biadasz’s track record makes him a more proven commodity, and his signing could push other teams to pivot to younger, potentially more expensive options. For the Panthers, this means the days of a returning Mays as their starter are likely numbered.
The Chicago Bears, who have been linked to upgrades at center in free agency, now have one fewer proven option to consider as well. Biadasz’s three-year deal in LA likely moves the Bears to explore alternatives, whether younger free agents or potential draft options. With the center market thinning before free agency even officially opens, teams like Chicago will need to act fast or risk starting the season with less-tested depth up the middle.
From a strategic standpoint, the Chargers not only fill a roster need but also assert themselves early in free agency, shaping the market and forcing other teams to react. Every move has ripple effects. Biadasz’s signing is a perfect example of how one decision can reverberate across the league before the official start of free agency.
