What changes could Bill Belichick make in the Patriots’ coaching staff?

The New England Patriots will be sitting out the postseason after they lost to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday and failed to clinch a wild card spot for the second time in three years.

Head coach Bill Belichick and Patriots owner Robert Kraft held their annual post-season meeting to discuss how to move forward given the team’s performance this year. The meeting comes after Kraft and his son Jonathan wrote season ticket holders to reassure them that they were not satisfied with the showing of the team, and that they would seriously evaluate their results.

Offense not up to par

The Patriots displayed high-level defense in the regular season, which could have been competitive in the playoffs, and could have even made them a force to reckon with at the Super Bowl. However, the offensive unit did not match their level. An improvement in this department would give the team much better chances of success in the 2023 season, which is why it’s looking like changes will mostly be implemented within the offensive coaching staff.

Belichick open to changes in offense

According to Tom Curran of NBC Sports, Belichick admits that it was not an ideal season, and that changes do have to be made.

“My understanding is offensive coaching reassignments are going to happen and several offensive coaches are under consideration for the Patriots’ 2023 staff,” per Curran.

It is possible that New England will hire a new offensive coordinator. Among the names that have been floated for the position are Patriots tight end coach Nick Caley, former Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury, and Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien.
