What did Cowboys owner Jerry Jones say about the possibility of signing Odell Beckham Jr.?

If in fact the Cowboys can acquire OBJ and then in turn have him up and running for the playoffs, there’s a good chance we could see a Super Bowl championship return to Dallas after more than two decades.

It’s now been a few months, since the star wide receiver started his very public tour of a number of teams in the hope of finding one that matches his heart’s desires. We’ve heard tell of the Giants, the Vikings and of course the Cowboys. At long last, it seems we may be coming to the end of the saga.

Is Odell Beckham Jr. close to a Cowboys move?

If Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ words are to be believed, then it appears that Dallas’s team is close to finalizing a deal with free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.. “Odell’s going to join us,” Jones said on Thursday. “There’s a good chance he will, with the complete goal of getting ready for a playoff game or two, and then I’ll look to the future. But most of it being about now.”

Beckham has of course been sidelined for the season so far, while recovering from an ACL tear which he suffered during the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl victory over the Cincinnati Bengals earlier this year. During the big game, Beckham hauled in two catches for 52 yards and a touchdown before being forced off the field due to the injury. It’s worth mentioning that Beckham’s move to Dallas has always been widely expected. Though it’s true that he visited their facility earlier this month and they declined to do a deal, due to a belief that he wouldn’t be able to contribute until next season, it now seems the team is set to get their man.

The Cowboys are hopeful OBJ can hit the ground running

What’s interesting here, is the idea that the Cowboys seem to have taken a U-turn on their doubts about how soon OBJ can be a factor. Indeed, Jones himself seems to be quite hopeful that the former Rams star can make an impact as soon as the playoffs.

“I’m hopeful we can get into some important games and have some Deion Sanders-type results,” Jones said. “Could this be possible to have a great player like that get in two or three playoff games and make some significant plays? I think very much so. That’s not an exaggerated thought at all.” It’s worth mentioning, that Jones’ courtship of Beckham has been public for quite some time. To that end, the longtime owner made it clear that he believes Beckham could be key in the battle to bring a Super Bowl title to Dallas, for the first time in more than twenty years. “The great ones, the extraordinary ones, have an ability to make a play or two in game that can be the difference in a world championship or not,” Jones said. “It’s kind of against the principles of all the practices, the repetition that you do for football. It’s against that. But the reality is, it happens. That’s been my motivation.”
