With details about the situation continuing to emerge, it remains unclear as to what occurred between the legendary linebacker and an unnamed individual, but what is certain is that there were death threats involved.

Former Ravens star Terrell Suggs arrested on assault charges

According to reports, former Baltimore Ravens star Terrell Suggs was arrested on Tuesday in Arizona. As per the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, the former NFL great now faces charges of assault and offense against public order. It is understood that Suggs made an initial appearance in court on Wednesday in connection with allegations of instigating a road rage incident in Scottsdale.

To that end, Suggs was given a supervised release by the presiding judge. Regarding details of the incident itself, court documents indicate the altercation began at a Starbucks drive-thru on March 10th, when Suggs allegedly reversed his vehicle, striking another car in the process. At that point a heated exchange occurred between Suggs and the driver of the other vehicle, resulting in Suggs allegedly showing a handgun through his window while threatening to kill the other man involved in the situation.

Interestingly, the 41-year-old has since moved to put a different spin on the situation. In a statement that was provided to TMZ via spokesperson Denise White, the now-retired defensive star seemed to have placed the blame squarely on the individual with whom he had the borderline violent disagreement.

“I was in a quiet area of Scottsdale in the middle of the day in a Starbucks drive-thru near my home when an incident happened with a vehicle behind me,” Suggs said. “I was getting coffee; I was not looking for any trouble. When the man in the other vehicle escalated the situation, I feared for my safety not knowing what his intentions were. Throughout the incident, I was the one who felt in danger, while fearing I would be followed home and for the safety of my family nearby at my residence.”

Suggs of course is a player who can be considered synonymous with the Baltimore Ravens after an extensive run with the team, though it must be said that his ties to Arizona are strong. Having starred for Hamilton High School before doing the same at Arizona State, it wasn’t a surprise to see him play one season with the Cardinals in 2019 following his time with the Ravens. Regarded as one of the greatest defensive players in NFL history, Suggs is a two-time Super Bowl winner and seven-time Pro Bowler and ranks eighth on the list of all-time career sacks with 139. A former Defensive Player of the Year who was inducted into the Ravens’ Ring of Honor, Suggs is one of the few players in NFL history to have had seven different seasons with double-digit sacks.
