Update:

As they look to mold themselves into contenders, it’s clear the Jacksonville Jaguars are thinking about the big picture. Indeed, that begins with locking down key parts of the team’s roster which they’ve seemingly just done.

Jaguars & Josh Allen agree to new deal

From what we can see from their moves, the Jacksonville Jaguars are looking to maintain central players as they look to build a team that can compete at the highest level. According to reports this week, the Jaguars have secured the services of star pass rusher Josh Allen for the foreseeable future. Allen and the franchise reportedly agreed to a five-year, $150 million deal. Yet what’s most notable about the deal is that it includes $88 million in guaranteed money which makes Allen the third-highest paid defensive player on a per-year basis in the NFL.

In terms of what that works out to on an annual basis, Allen will now earn $30 million a year, which places him just behind the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive lineman, Nick Bosa, who earns $34 million per year, and the Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle, Chris Jones, who is currently earning $31.75 million. Of course, this should come as no surprise as the Jaguars previously tagged Allen ahead of free agency. To that end, the agreement is yet another sign that the franchise is building for the future. As per reports, the deal was negotiated by WME Sports

As for his numbers, Allen has been sensational for the Jaguars. Just last season, the 26-year-old set a Jaguars franchise record with 17.5 sacks en route to his first Pro Bowl nomination, which again only reaffirms the reason why the Jaguars would place so much faith in him. In total, Allen has 45 career sacks, 251 tackles, eight pass deflections, and one defensive touchdown in his career so far, having been selected by the Jaguars with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2019 Draft. His is the latest in a series of deals that the Jaguars have confirmed during the offseason including agreements with linebacker Foye Oluokun, guard Ezra Cleveland, and the acquisition of free agents defensive lineman Arik Armstead, wide receiver Gabe Davis, safety Darnell Savage and wide receiver Devin Duvernay. This is all to say, keep an eye on the Jaguars this coming season, as they appear to be making moves.
