Update:

The name DeMarcus is not the most common, but…it’s not so uncommon. The Dallas Cowboys at least know more than one. Over the weekend, the Cowboys sent a text message to former Pro Bowler and current Hall of Famer DeMarcus Ware, who played as a linebacker for the Cowboys from 2005-2013. The message was actually meant to go to current defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence.

What did the text say?

DeMarcus Ware took to Instagram to share the mistake. The message was from Cowboys head trainer Jim Maurer, and it was to say that he’d been randomly selected for a drug test.

Ware said he called Maurer after to let him know about the mistake and they both had a good laugh. In the post, he followed the photo of the text with a video saying, “I heard the Cowboys are looking for a defensive end…I know a guy” before running around a gym with football pads in his hands.

It’s true that after losing Sam Williams to a season-ending knee injury, the Cowboys are indeed looking to replace him, though despite the random drug test message, Ware is just a bit past his prime.
