What happened to Chiefs DL BJ Thompson? Kansas City Chiefs cancel team activities

The Kansas City Chiefs cancelled their team activities after BJ Thompson suffered a seizure leading the team to cancel all activities.

On Thursday, during a team meeting, Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman BJ Thompson suffered a seizure and went into cardiac arrest. The team immediately cancelled all team activities and now report that the fifth round draft pick out of Stephen F. Austin is currently in stable condition.

Thompson’s agent, Chris Turnage, reported, “BJ is still unconscious at this point, but he’s stable and vitals are good. His family asks for your continued prayers.”

All activities scheduled for Thursday was rescheduled for Friday and the mandatory minicamp is still scheduled for Tuesday.

Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo said prior to any questions from the press, “Let me say this before I say anything, I’m thinking about BJ right now. It was scary. I think the guys were a little scared, I know I was. But I prayed a lot and (head athletic trainer) Rick (Burkholder) and his team did a wonderful job. But everyone, you know, from a man to a person to a woman, because we have female coaches, they’ve been great, they’ve done a great job. So we’re crossing our fingers.”

The 25-year-old Thompson played one game during his rookie season, against the Chargers in the final game of the regular season.

Last week, Thompson was part of the Chiefs team that traveled to the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl title with President Biden. He shared several photos from the visit on his Instagram account and joked in the caption that the trip “made me feel like the president.”
