What injury did George Kittle suffer in 49ers vs. Eagles wild-card game
The San Francisco tight end was carted off in the second quarter in Philadelphia.
More bad news for the San Francisco 49ers. Star tight end George Kittle was carted off the field after suffering what was confirmed by the 49ers to be an achilles injury in the second quarter of their Wildcard match against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Kittle lands awkwardly on right leg
Kittle was tackled after receiving a pass from quarterback Brock Purdy and landed awkwardly on his right foot.
The 32-year-old went down and immediately clutched his ankle. The 49ers called for an injury time out, before Kittle was carted from the field.
The Eagles fans respectfully applauded Kittle as he was taken off.
Locker room concern for 49ers as season context comes into focus
The seriousness of the injury was underscored shortly after Kittle was taken off. 49ers owner Jed York and Kittle’s wife, Claire, were seen entering the team’s locker room and appeared visibly somber in the aftermath, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.
The injury caps a frustrating season for the seven-time Pro Bowler, who was limited to 11 games due to multiple setbacks. Kittle missed five games earlier in the year with a hamstring injury and played through other physical issues when available.
Despite the interruptions, Kittle remained highly productive when on the field. He finished the regular season with 57 receptions for 628 yards and seven touchdowns, continuing to serve as a central piece of San Francisco’s offense whenever healthy.
