Update:

The New York Jets have only been at training camp for two days and already saw an injury to their starting quarterback Justin Fields. On Thursday, Fields was carted off the field with an injury.

Fields sustains toe injury: timeline unknown

Fields appeared to have suffered a lower leg injury, but it was later revealed to be an injury to his right toe during 11-on-11 drills. Head coach Aaron Glenn said the severity is still unknown, but it’s reported that it was not his big toe and it is not a fracture, but rather a dislocated toe after being stepped on.

Fields limped off and was later taken inside after receiving attention from trainers. The 2025 starter, Fields signed a two-year, $40 million deal with the Jets this offseason. At the moment, it’s not clear how long he’ll be out.

With his status uncertain, veteran Tyrod Taylor is expected to step in if needed. Fields had shown promise with the Steelers last season before joining New York.

“Listen, we have an outstanding backup in Tyrod [Taylor], who has been in this league for around 14 years,” said Glenn. “So the leadership that he brings ... listen, we’re all good. We’re all good.”

Behind Taylor on the Jets’ quarterback depth chart are Adrian Martinez and rookie Brady Cook.
