CLEVELAND BROWNS
What injury does Deshaun Watson have?
Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson will miss the rest of the 2023 NFL season as he will undergo surgery on his throwing shoulder.
The Cleveland Browns will be without their starting quarterback Deshaun Watson for the remainder of the season as he gets ready to have surgery on his throwing shoulder.
What happened to Deshaun Watson’s shoulder?
Earlier in the season, Watson injured that same shoulder with a rotator cuff strain and had to miss four games. He was only back for two weeks before finding out he’ll miss the rest of the season. During his second game back against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, Watson led the Browns to a 33-31 victory, but it came at a cost, as that’s when he started to feel more discomfort on the shoulder. He told the medical staff after the game was finished and they did an MRI. The MRI revealed two things: a displaced fracture to the glenoid in his shoulder and a high ankle sprain on the left ankle.
Walker to fill Watson’s shoes
Watson should be good to return for the start of the 2024 season next year. For now, the 6-3 Browns will look to backup quarterback PJ Walker to fill in for Watson. He’ll have a tough test this Sunday when the Browns face the Pittsburgh Steelers in a significant AFC North matchup.
In Walker’s first start against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6, he led the Browns to a 19-17 victory. In Week 7, he added another W against the Indianapolis Colts and threw for 178 yards. He started in Week 8, but the Browns lost that game 24-20 to the Seattle Seahawks. Walker was also brought on for the final play of the game against the Ravens last week to throw a Hail Mary pass as Watson went off with the ankle issue.
