Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs has had quite an eventful week, from a clash with a reporter after the loss to the Ninets, to his brother Stefon Diggs suffering the same ACL injury as he did last year, to making a critical comment about the Cowboys’ coaching, to now suffering from an injury of his own.

Diggs' injury and Week 9 status

Diggs spoke to the media on Wednesday and apologized to the reporter who he initially said could “talk about deez nuts” after the Niners' game.

“I shouldn’t have reacted the way I reacted. I apologize for that,” Diggs said. “Most of it caught me at the right time.”

However, another topic of conversation was the fact that Diggs sat out of practice with a calf injury. With the long list of other significant defenders with injuries on this Cowboys team, that‘s not the news fans want to hear. Still, Diggs said he‘s working on healing in time for this Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.

“I feel good,” said Diggs. “I had some tightness in my calf, a little sore coming out of the game... I’m just getting treatment and working through it.”

Despite Diggs' optimism, calf injuries are nothing to take lightly. The possibility of re-injuring them is high and they also carry the potential to turn into Achilles injuries (i.e. Aaron Rodgers, Christian McCaffrey...).

The good news is that fellow cornerback DaRon Bland was activated from Injured Reserve on Wednesday, so if Diggs does have to miss time, at least Dallas could lean on Bland... well, potentially. His status is also unclear at the moment and he did not practice on Wednesday.

With defensive ends DeMarcus Lawrence and Marshawn Kneeland on Injured Reserve still and edge rusher Micah Parsons looking less and less likely to play on Sunday, the Cowboys really need at least one of their cornerbacks to be healthy this Sunday.
