Carolina Panthers linebacker Damien Wilson has been arrested following his ex-girlfriend’s accusations that he threatened to kill her with a tire iron after she broke off her relationship with him.

Police arrested Wilson in Frisco, Texas, and the player faces charges of assault with bodily injury of a family member, according to the Dallas Morning News.

The 28-year-old’s ex-girlfriend, Ryan Sokolsky, told the newspaper that after she ended their relationship, the player appeared at her house intoxicated and made the threat on her life.

She said he choked her friend who was with her when the incident took place, and that he broke her laptop after he wrapped it in a blanket and slammed it to the ground, saying it was her cat inside. She also charged that he tried to run her over with his car as he drove off.

Sokolsky said that she was able to get a protective order against him.

Wilson’s lawyer, Toby Shook, denied the charges against his client.

“Damien Wilson did not commit any type of assault,” Shook told the Morning News. “We look forward to all the facts coming out so his name can be cleared.

Wilson signed a two-year agreement with the Panthers this offseason. He began his professional football career with the Dallas Cowboys, who drafted him in 2015. He was with them for four seasons and then he moved to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019. He played for the Jacksonville Jaguars last year.

He has tallied 381 tackles in his career, seven sacks, four faced fumbles, and one interception in his seven seasons in the NFL.
