What now for Caleb Williams at the Chicago Bears?
The USC graduate came to an offense where the top talents are wide receivers Keenan Allen and D.J. Moore.
The Chicago Bears drafted Caleb Williams with the first overall pick in the 2024 Draft thanks to a trade they made a year ago with the Carolina Panthers. Now, the NFC North team has the best quarterback prospect of a generation and will look to build a playoff team with the players around him.
The team coached by Matt Eberflus finished the 2023 season with a 7-10 record in a competitive National Conference thanks to a solid Bears defense that conceded the fewest points in the last three years.
Now, who will Caleb Williams have alongside him in his rookie year with the Chicago Bears? Let’s have a look.
Who plays for the Chicago Bears?
The Bears’ offensive line is strong and Williams’ blind side will be protected by tackle Braxton Jones and guard Teven Jenkins. The center, barring any additions in free agency, will be Ryan Bates. The right side of the line is completed by guard Nate Davis and Darnell Wright.
The Bears’ aerial attack will improve with Williams behind center as D.J. Moore is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. In addition, Chicago expanded its receiving arsenal with the addition of Keenan Allen in a trade with the Los Angeles Chargers. Also, the team from the ‘Windy City’ could select a WR with the ninth overall pick. The players who are not guaranteed to play every Sunday are Velus Jones, Tyler Scott, Nsimba Webster and Collin Johnson.
A strong ground attack is necessary for a rookie quarterback to find success early in his career. Therefore, general manager Ryan Poles has decided to sign D’Andre Swift to round out the stable of running backs consisting of Khalil Herbert and Roschon Johnson. In addition, fullback Khari Blasingame is, as always, ready to provide protection on passing plays.
When does the NFL preseason begin?
The majority of NFL training camps are set to open on July 24 and teams will officially begin the preseason on August 1, which will give enough time for Williams to get fit and get to know his teammates even better.
After that, the 18-week schedule of the regular season will begin on September 5, with the Kansas City Chiefs hosting the opening game of the campaign.
The draft is not over, however, as there are 2 more days to go! Round 2-3 is on Friday while Rounds 4-7 will take place on Saturday. You can follow all the action as it happens live on AS USA, as well as any breaking news in the world of sport.
