Update:

To be one of the best players in the NFL you have to do a few things. First you have to have the natural talent. Then you have to have the work ethic and dedication. That obsession with the game that not many other have. Even if you are obsessed with the game, there is still time for other obsessions.

Burrow one of top dogs in NFL

Joe Burrow was considered the next big thing coming out of LSU in 2020. It’s been an impressive journey filled with mostly ups but some downs. In the last five years, he’s dealt with a handful of injuries, but even with those aches and pains he’s gone to a Super Bowl and last year he led the league in passing yards and touchdowns.

His dedication to the game can’t be questioned. He has led the Bengals through the good times and the bad times. At full strength and when he has been battling through injuries. But even though he lives, eats and breathes football, there is still time for other hobbies and passions.

In Netflix’s second season of Quarterback, Burrow was mic’ed up in one of the Bengals’ training session and he was overheard talking not about the coverage, or the pass protection but fossils. The Bengals went to the Natural History Museum, and Burrow was amazed.

When aren’t fossils on my mind?

In between reps during practice, Burrow explained to one of the Bengals staff members, “Somehow there’s this one fossil that proved Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. It’s called the Archaeopteryx. There’s like 12 of them and we got to see one of those.”

The Archaeopteryx is a fossil that is a combination between bird and reptile, while it doesn’t directly prove Darwin’s theory, it does show a progression from dinosaurs to birds. “They took us behind the scenes and showed us some really cool stuff. It’s like a library of fossils that they don’t show everyone else.”

A couple years ago there was a trend on social media where girlfriends or wives asked their partners how often they think about the Roman Empire. Well, it seems that Burrow’s Roman Empire are fossils. When asked why fossils were on his mind, he answered “When aren’t fossils on your mind? They go back millions of years. That’s sick.”
