What unique milestone did Saints linebacker Demario Davis achieve?
While the Saints linebacker may not be a household name, what he has achieved across more than a decade in the NFL is quite more than impressive.
From the brutal takedowns to head-on collisions, football is an unforgiving game laden with injuries and that’s precisely why to escape them is an incredible feat. In a career that has seen him play for several teams, the Saints’ defensive stalwart has been as durable as he is consistent and that’s something to salute.
Demario Davis’ consistency has got to be admired
It’s been 13 years since New Orleans Saints linebacker Demario Davis has been playing in the NFL and during that time the 6 ft 2, 248lb defensive lineman has proven himself to be the very definition of durability. Playing for the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, and Saints, Davis has played a combined total of 197 of 198 games since his rookie year.
What was that one absence due to? A covid-19 diagnosis back in December 2021 which is to say Davis has never missed a game through injury. Of course, as is the case in all aspects of life nothing lasts forever and so it has come to pass that his long run has finally come to an end.
On Friday afternoon, New Orleans coach Dennis Allen told reporters that Davis would in fact miss the Saints’ Week 4 game against the Atlanta Falcons this coming Sunday due to a hamstring injury - making the first time in his professional career that the 35-year-old will be on the sideline due to that which all players of any sport fear, injury.
Suffice to say it will be a loss to the Saints given that Davis has been productive this season not just constant, notching one sack and 18 total tackles for the NFC South co-leaders in the three games that he has played. Where his past is concerned, it would be fair to say that Davis is a diamond in the rough, one whose worth was discovered much later on as evidenced by the fact that he got his first All-Pro team nod at 30. He has since made the Pro Bowl in back-to-back seasons. In light of that, the Saints will undoubtedly be hoping that his downtime is not lengthy as they’ve got games with the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers following their dance with the Falcons.
