As expected, Rihanna’s eagerly-awaited Super Bowl LVII show was a celebration of the singer’s greatest hits.
Rihanna performs Super Bowl LVII halftime show
The Barbadian, a nine-time Grammy Award winner, provided the halftime entertainment at State Farm Stadium, where the Kansas City Chiefs took on the Philadelphia Eagles for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Rihanna’s halftime show marked her return to live performing for the first time in seven years, amid an extended career break to concentrate on her fashion label, Fenty. The 34-year-old, who is dating rapper ASAP Rocky, also gave birth to the couple’s first child in May 2022.
She hasn’t recorded a studio album since “Anti” back in 2016, although in 2022 she released the song “Lift Me Up”, the lead single from the soundtrack to the movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The track has been nominated for the Best Original Song award at the 2023 Oscars.
“You’re trying to cram 17 years of work into 13 minutes”
Speaking ahead of her Super Bowl halftime show, Rihanna told a press conference that she had found it very difficult to choose her set list, which had to last for 13 minutes. “That was the hardest part, deciding how to maximise 13 minutes […],” she said. “You’re trying to cram 17 years of work into 13 minutes. But I think we did a good job of reducing it.”

Rihanna began her Super Bowl LVII halftime show with “Bitch Better Have My Money”.
A medley of her greatest successes then included renditions of “Where Have You Been”, “Only Girl in the World”, “We Found Love”, “Rude Boy”, “Work”, “Wild Wild”, “Blow it Up”, “All of the Lights”, “Run this Town”, “Umbrella” and “Diamonds”.
