What will happen to Kyren Lacy if he is convicted now that he’s been arrested?
LSU’s star wide receiver and top NFL Draft prospect Kyren Lacy has now been arrested after a warrant was out due to his involvement in a deadly car crash.
LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy was one of the top NFL Draft prospects heading into 2025. He was the team’s leading receiver in touchdown receptions with nine and second in catches (58) and receiving yards (866). He’d declared for the 2025 NFL Draft on December 19, 2024.
Unfortunately, just two days before doing so, Lacy was involved in a fatal car accident that has led to his arrest and potentially ruined his hopes at a future in the NFL.
Lacy looking at several years in prison
The Louisiana State Police issued a warrant for Lacy’s arrest on Friday after he allegedly fled the scene of a car accident on December 17. He is accused of driving recklessly on Highway 20 and overtaking several other vehicles at a high speed, causing a domino effect of other cars swerving to avoid crashes and eventually a head-on collision that sent one man, 78-year-old former U.S. Marine Herman Hall, to the hospital, where he later passed away due to injuries sustained in the crash.
According to police, Lacy drove around the scene of the accident before fleeing, without offering help or reporting his involvement in the incident.
Lacy was arrested on Sunday and taken to the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex. He faces charges of negligent homicide, hit and run, and reckless operation of a vehicle. He posted a $151,000 bond and was released from jail later that day.
Lacy’s agent, Rocky Arceneaux, said that Lacy is “fully cooperating with authorities”.
“We strongly believe that the facts will ultimately demonstrate the truth, but we respect the need for a full and thorough investigation,” Arceneaux said in a statement.
Potential conviction for Kyren Lacy
If Lacy is found guilty of negligent homicide, he could be facing up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000. Even if he is cleared of the legal charges, Lacy’s future in the NFL is still at risk, as his draft stock is sure to have gone down after this incident.
