Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck has committed to the Miami Hurricanes for next season less than two weeks after announcing he would be entering the 2025 NFL draft.

Ahead of the 2024 college season, the 23-year-old was rated as one of the top passers available for the draft and was many people’s favourites to ultimately be the No.1 overall pick. However, things haven’t quite gone as planned in the last few months, which has seen his plans change.

Beck’s difficult 2024 with the Bulldogs

Beck didn’t hit the heights expected of him with the Bulldogs in 2024, throwing nine interceptions in the space of four games, as well as three in one game against the Alabama Crimson Tide at the end of September.

Georgia still finished second in the Southeastern Conference and reached the Sugar Bowl, where they lost to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, although Beck, who suffered a season-ending elbow injury in the SEC Championship win over the Texas Longhorns on December 7, wasn’t involved.

As a result, Beck’s stock dropped, with ESPN reporting some NFL evaluators believed the quarterback would now be selected anywhere between rounds two and five.

Hurricanes hope to boost Beck’s draft prospects

On Thursday, Beck chose to enter the transfer portal rather than declare for the 2025 draft, in the hope that he can rediscover his best form with the Hurricanes, who committed to on Friday, and boost his draft prospects for 2026.

Cam Ward, on the back of a stellar season with Miami, may well end up being this year’s No. 1 draft pick, and Beck hopes the program will have a similar effect on his career.
