What’s the good news about Washington Commanders’ Brian Robinson Jr?

Teammates, coaches and the franchise itself will likely be very happy with the news, but spare a thought for the player’s family and friends given the awful situation.

After the horrible circumstances that he found himself in earlier this month, the Commanders RB is thankfully doing better, as reports indicate his recovery is going well.

Commanders’ Brian Robinson Jr. is recovering exceptionally

According to reports on Wednesday, Washington Commanders rookie running back Brian Robinson Jr. is alive and progressing well, along his road to recovery. Robinson of course, was shot multiple times while in his car during an attempted robbery earlier this month. As per Commanders head coach Ron Rivera, Robinson is now off crutches and the swelling in his knee has gone down “an awful lot.” Indeed, if one thing is clear, it’s that the speed at which the young man has been recovering is exceptionally. Just a matter of days after undergoing surgery, Robinson was visiting with teammates and coaches at the franchise’s facility.

Luck aside Brian Robinson Jr. has no timeline for return

While the news is most definitely positive and a cause for celebration, Robinson remains on the Non-Football Injury (NFI) list. In keeping with that, he won’t be available for at least the first four weeks of the NFL regular season. On the other hand, he’s fully expected to play this year. Take a moment to consider the good fortune he had, in that the bullet which struck his knee, miraculously missed his ligaments, tendons and bone in the joint itself. In other words, there was no significant damage to the joint of any kind. It’s been reported, that he could well make his first appearance against the Tennessee Titans in Week 5.

As for what the Commanders will be missing during his absence, Robinson rushed 14 times for 57 yards and one touchdown during the preseason and actually got the nod to start over Antonio Gibson in Washington’s second exhibition matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. In light of his unavailability, it’s widely expected that Washington will have to rely on the services of the aforementioned Gibson along with J.D. McKissic and Jonathan Williams to cover.
