Almost every team in the NFL will have started their training camp by this time tomorrow. The most of the rookies have been there for at least a few days, and the 26th marks the day most veterans will enter camp officially starting the new seasons.

Training camp in full swing as of tomorrow

One of the many stories coming into camp is Joe Burrow and his future in Cincinnati. The former LSU Tiger is coming into his third year as the Bengals quarter, and has already taken his hometown team to the Super Bowl in his sophomore season.

His rookie year was cut short when he tore his ACL in Week 11 of his debut season. His remarkable comeback was capped by a trip to the Super Bowl last year in a season where he threw for 4,600 yards, 34 touchdowns and just 14 interceptions while completing 70% of his passes.

He is in third year of his rookie contract, and will be eligible for an extension once next season is over. Rookies from Burrow’s class have four year contracts, which leaves two years left on their contract, but can have their deals extended at the end of this season.

QB’s getting big bucks

Kyler Murray is the latest quarterback to get big bucks after the Arizona Cardinals singed their gunslinger to a five-year deal worth $230.5 million. The extension makes Murray one of seven quarterbacks making more than $40 million a year. Burrow was taken as the number one overall pick in the 2020 draft and his deal is worth $9.9 million dollars a year.

“It’s crazy the number that these guys are putting up, and I think it’s well deserved,” Burrow said back in June. “All those guys are playing at the top of their game. They’re being paid accordingly. But really, I haven’t thought about it much right now.”

At the moment, it doesn’t seem as though the Bengals are rushing to lock their face of the franchise in long term, but the team president Mike Brown and the rest of the front office know a new deal is on the horizon.

Brown was asked about the status of Burrow, and his long term future in Cincinatti at the media luncheon on Monday, and put the talks of an extension on the back burner. “Right now, our obvious, most important issue will be with our quarterback,” Brown said. “It’s not quite ready or ripe yet, but it’s right down the track. We see the train coming.”
