When is the last time the Giants beat the Cowboys?

The New York Giants tend to have a hard time winning with Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott under center. Here’s their record and their last W over Dallas.

The Dallas Cowboys are heading to the East Coast to take on their rivals New York Giants tonight for a Thursday Night Football NFC East showdown. The Cowboys and the Giants have had strikingly similar seasons so far. Both are 1-2 with their lone win coming against the Cleveland Browns on the road.

The Cowboys’ two losses came at the hands of the New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens, both at home. And both were a clobbering, with a defense that was unable to stop the run game and an offense that barely had one. The Giants lost to the Minnesota Vikings and NFC East foes Washington Commanders.

Giants vs Cowboys: Recent History

The Cowboys lead the overall series over the Giants 75–47–2. It’s been a while since the Giants saw a win over the Cowboys. Their last one came in the 2020 season, on January 3, 2021, when they eliminated Dallas from playoff contention. At the time, the Cowboys were playing with quarterback Andy Dalton under center as starter Dak Prescott was out for the season with an ankle injury which he suffered during a Giants game earlier in the season.

It’s another story when Prescott is the starting quarterback for Dallas. Since he joined the Cowboys in 2016, Prescott has played the Giants 14 times and has lost just two of those games, both losses coming during his rookie season. From 2017 until that game in January 2021, the Cowboys had seven straight wins over the Giants, including the one in which Prescott first suffered the injury to his ankle.

The Giants won the game with Andy Dalton under center for the Cowboys in 2021, and then the Cowboys went another six consecutive games without losing. Last season, the Cowboys shut out the Giants 40-0 in the season opener and followed that up by another 49-17 obliteration in November.

And that brings us to now. Prescott is fully healthy for tonight’s game, but the Cowboys have been struggling to get the offense going and he’s been struggling to find his rhythm with star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

The Giants revamped their offense during the offseason and rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers has emerged as a superstar through the first three games. In their win over the Browns, Nabers caught eight receptions for 78 yards and two touchdowns, becoming the youngest wide receiver in NFL history to have two receiving touchdowns in a game.

He now leads the league in targets (37) and is tied for first in receiving touchdowns (three), second in receptions (23), and third in receptions per game (7.7). The Dallas defense will have to answer to that tonight as the Giants look to get their first win over Prescott since 2016.
