Who’s your favourite to lift the LIX Super Bowl early in 2025? For many, another Kansas City Chiefs victory is very possible, as Patrick Mahomes adds another season of experience to his already exceptional career. Assuming no break-ups in the coming months, the Taylor Swift fan club will also be following one of the heavy favourites as they target a three-peat, a third consecutive Super Bowl.

But there are moves taking place in the market that suggest that the Chiefs will not have it all their own way in 2024. One such team is the Houston Texans, and as well as building a strong team of their own, they were also involved in a big deal that prevented handing out gifts to their perceived main rivals.

Diggs banned from Chiefs trade

Experience was desired in Texas to compliment young star CJ Stroud at quarterback and Stefon Diggs was identified as the man for the occasion. The former Buffalo Bills wide receiver arrived – in return the Bills get a second-round 2025 pick via the Minnesota Vikings – amid competition from other teams. But one franchise was refused the option, namely the aforementioned Chiefs.

How has Diggs been performing?

Diggs, a top-tier receiver, swiftly set an NFL record with the Bills, becoming the quickest to reach 100 catches with a new team. Previously with the Vikings, he joined Buffalo in 2020, dominating the season as the league leader in receptions and receiving yards. Despite this, Diggs faced challenges in 2023, experiencing a decline in performance. The 30-year-old receiver, with a disappointing season behind him, now transitions to the Texans after tallying 1,183 yards and only 8 touchdown receptions, a significant drop from his previous standards.

Who else is joining Houston Texans?

CJ Stroud’s remarkable performance in 2023 injected optimism into the Texans’ camp, hinting at a potential breakthrough in the playoffs. Despite being eliminated by the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional playoffs, the Texans swiftly reinforced their roster to support Stroud. Recently, they secured running back Joe Mixon from the Bengals on a three-year, $27 million extension, while adding Danielle Hunter to fortify their defense with a two-year deal worth $48 million in guaranteed compensation. Although they missed out on Keenan Allen, the Texans have made significant strides in the off-season.

Conversely, the Buffalo Bills faced setbacks during free agency, losing key players. Tre’Davious White and Jordan Poyer departed, with Poyer signing for the Miami Dolphins. Additionally, receiver Gabriel Davis moved to the Jacksonville Jaguars, while veteran defensive end Leonard Floyd joined the San Francisco 49ers.
